Recent edit to Edward Albee

Hello. I noticed that you recently made a contribution to the Edward Albee article that seemed to be a test. Your test worked! However, test edits on live articles disrupt Wikipedia and may confuse readers. If you want more practice editing, the sandbox is the best place to do so. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thank you! Rider ranger47 Talk 15:49, 28 March 2015 (UTC) reply

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, your addition of one or more external links to the page Documentary film has been reverted.
Your edit here to Documentary film was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed ( https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCRsTRw1gxqu91OL_9tPJLiw/, https://www.youtube.com/user/thegreatplanetcom/) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Draft:John Mulholland

Hi, I was reviewing your article, here are some suggestions about how to improve it. Most of your citations are of the primary source like websites of the subject, blogs, videos and interviews. Look for reliable sources like reports from reliable newspapers or magazines. Make sure the articles highlight the subject not just his work. Hope this helps. Thank you. Adyoo3 ( talk) 00:36, 13 May 2015 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the suggestions. Appreciated. Think I'll step away from my little Wikipedia venture. This is my first attempt at adding a Wikipedia article. Since the draft is inadequate -- and taking up considerably more time than I envisioned -- will take whatever steps are necessary to delete it. Do not know Mulholland, merely have admired his work over the years. Thought he deserved a page, better left to one more equipped than I. Again, your encouragement is gratefully appreciated.

Lists of people

You need to be more careful editing lists of people. You can't just revert to a year-old version as your way of restoring content whose removal you dispute, because that also erases everything else that's been added to the list since then — for example, your edit to List of LGBT writers had the effect not just of restoring the writers you were trying to restore, but of removing 15 new writers who have been added to the list since the version you tried to restore, as well as erasing biographical and referencing updates that have been made to at least 40 other writers. You cannot do that: if you want to add content to the list, you can add it, but you cannot simply revert to an old version if that erases other legitimate content that has been added since the removal that you're disputing. You're going to be running the risk of a temporary editblock if I have to keep going around after you to repair edits like that. Bearcat ( talk) 23:43, 8 January 2017 (UTC) reply

Very, very sorry. Sincere apologies for all the work and effort I have put you through. Will take more care in the future. Chrish65 ( talk)

It occurred to me later that you might have thought that restoring that version of the article just reinserted the specific edit you were trying to apply at that time, and didn't change anything else that was on the page — but what it actually does is roll the entire page back to its state as of that date and time, thus also removing any other changes that have taken place since then. So just to clarify, I'm confident that you didn't intend to erase all of the newer edits, and that you just didn't realize the full extent what was actually happening. Bearcat ( talk) 13:48, 9 January 2017 (UTC) reply

Got it! Thank you for your patience and understanding. Regret that it was you, and not I, who had to incur the cost in time and frustration and work. Chrish65 ( talk)
