A tag has been placed on Fantastic Voyage (Lakeside song) requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about about a person, organization (band, club, company, etc.) or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{ hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. R&B number-ones

Hi there, thanks for working on creating these. Just a few things... please be aware of naming conventions in article titles. Incidental words and prepostions such as "The", "A", "An", "With", etc. should not be capitalized unless it is the first word in the title (see Wikipedia:WikiProject_Albums#Capitalization for more). Also be sure to add categories to the articles. Two easy ones are "Category:19xx singles" (for the year of release) and "Category:Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs number-one singles", since they are U.S. R&B number-ones. You may also want to add a stub tag since the new articles need expansion ( WP:SONGS#Stubs). Any other questions just ask. Thanks - eo ( talk) 22:36, 30 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Also, when naming new song articles, you don't have to include the (Name of artist song) within the title of the article. This is only to disambiguate the article name if there is already an article by that name. First, just use the title of the song, if that's taken, try Title of song (song), before adding in the artist's name. Within the article, also include the album that the song originally appeared on. Including your sources would also be extremely helpful. You must be getting the chart information from somewhere, right? Finally, add infoboxes to your article on singles. It provides nice, quick information to the readers (see Template:Infobox Single). Don't worry, you don't have to fill in all the info, just what you know. Have fun and thanks for contributing. -- Wolfer68 ( talk) 05:54, 2 June 2009 (UTC) reply

Further advice

I'd like to provide some further advice on your creation of number-one R&B and dance song articles.

  1. In the song title's first mention in the article, not only should it be in bold-faced type, it should be in quotations. "Kiddio" instead of Kiddio, for example.
  2. Don't overdo the commas. Most of them are unnecessary as in this sentence you wrote:
    • "Kiddio", also continued Brook Benton's popularity on the pop charts, by making it his fifth, top ten, pop single. Not one comma in that sentence is needed.
  3. Use in-text citations and correct citation style. Instead of a note at the bottom of the article, it is better to cite specifically the sentence being referenced within the article.
    • You would add this <ref>{{cite book |title= Top R&B/Hip-Hop Singles: 1942-2004|last=Whitburn |first=Joel |authorlink=Joel Whitburn |year=2004 |publisher=Record Research |page=54}}</ref>. Put {{reflist}} under the References section and the listing would look like this:
      • Whitburn, Joel (2004). Top R&B/Hip-Hop Singles: 1942-2004. Record Research. p. 54.
  4. When creating a chart positions section, if only listing a few chart titles, there is no need to sort them, since it's all visually in front of you. Use class="wikitable" instead of class="wikitable sortable".
  5. Also in the table, if you are going to pipe the chart name (e.g. [[Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs|Hot Black Singles]]), make sure you use the correct chart name at the time when the single charted. "Hot Black Singles", for example, was the name of the R&B chart from 1982 through 1990, while in the early '60s it was called "Hot R&B Sides". The chronology of the names is listed in the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs article. You can do the same thing in the succession box, too.
  6. The succession boxes should be placed at the end of the article, especially for small articles like yours. The only thing that should be after the succession box is an artist's navigation template (if there is one), the categories, and a stub.
  7. Also, there is no need to wikilink dates. That is a deprecated practice.
  8. Finally, be sure to add a stub at the end of all your articles, since they are never more than a few sentences long. {{R&B-song-stub}} or {{1960s-pop-song-stub}} are a couple of examples to use, depending on the type of song it is, of course, and when it was released.

Proposed deletion of Baby Love (Regina song)

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Baby Love (Regina song), suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

As is insufficient context

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also " What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{ dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Please be sure to add the artist's songs category to all the article stubs you are creating, per WP:SONGS#Categories. Succession boxes

FYI, there is a current discussion at Wikipedia talk:Record charts#Succession boxes about the need of the succession boxes within song articles. Since you seem to be creating articles for songs that reached number one on various U.S. charts (dance, R&B, country), and include such boxes, you should be prepared to stop the practice. You can continue to add the boxes until consensus is reached and it's put into the guidelines, but you may also want to start including the information you put in the boxes into the prose, which is primarily the date the song reached number one. You may also want to link the chart from within the article as well. A chart section is another possibility. I made such changes to the article you created for " Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow" as one way of doing it (keeping the succession box for now). -- Wolfer68 ( talk) 21:49, 9 December 2009 (UTC) reply

Hi - I notice you're creating a lot of song articles which contain phrases like " ... would be her tenth number one on the country chart ..." Please could you write these in the past tense? If it was her tenth number one, then that's a fact, and I think it reads better as eg " ... was her tenth number one on the country chart ..."

Adult contemporary #1's

FYI - I have edited your succession box for the article you created for the song " Navy Blue" from this:

Preceded by
" Java" by Al Hirt
"Billboard" Easy Listening number-one single by
Diane Renay

March 21, 1964
(one week)
Succeeded by
" Hello Dolly!" by Louis Armstrong

to this:

Preceded by Billboard Easy Listening number-one single
March 21, 1964
Succeeded by

Note that I wiki-linked the artists in the songs preceding and succeeding; I removed the artist's name for the song of the article (you only need to put the name when there are multiple hit versions and it needs to be made clear which version; when you need to add whose version, type "(So-and-so version)" not "by So-and-so"; I removed the number of weeks (when more than one week just add a date range based on the issue dates it was at number one); I changed your link for the chart from Hot Adult Contemporary to Adult Contemporary (chart); you don't need to link Billboard within the pipe for the chart; and Billboard should be italicized not within quotation marks. There's really no need for line breaks <br> either.

Also, you continue to use "would be" instead of "was". Instead of saying, "Navy Blue" would be one of two chart hits for Diane Renay", write "Navy Blue" was one of two chart hits for Renay" (you don't have to repeat the artist's full name either). I hope this helps. I'm going to go back and correct all the AC #1's you've already added the succession boxes to. If you can follow this for any more you add in that will be great. Thanks. -- Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars ( talk) 10:49, 4 July 2010 (UTC) reply

  • Why do you continue to not link the artist name of the preceding and succeeding songs when you add in the succession boxes and why do you continue to put "by so-and-so" even when that artist's version is the only notable version? -- Starcheerspeaksnewslostwars ( talk) 16:56, 9 July 2010 (UTC) reply

Hi - once again, there is no need to add the artist name within the succession boxes you are adding to articles such as Something Better to Do. The article clearly states it is a song by Olivia Newton-John and no other notable versions are mentioned. I have removed where you put in "by Olivia Newton-John" in the box. Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. An automated process has detected that when you recently edited Time (The Alan Parsons Project song), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Chilean ( check to confirm |  fix with Dab solver). Billboard chart details in intro paragraphs

I think you're putting details about Billboard charts in the introductory paragraph so many articles about songs - I've encountered several on Creedence Clearwater songs. I am reverting the ones on articles I watch because that's unnecessary detail for the opening paragraph. You may want to return those details lower down in the story, if you wish.

As you know, the intro to an article should be quick and concise summary of important information about the article topic. Saying that a song was blocked from #1 by somebody's else's song, with detail and links, is way too cluttered for the intro. - DavidWBrooks ( talk) 01:12, 6 December 2018 (UTC) reply

Covers & pop culture

Hi, I noticed you have added covers and "In popular culture" examples to several articles. Please note these need reliable sources that show that they are noteworthy for inclusion in an encyclopedic article – sources that merely show that they exist are not sufficient to meet WP:SONGCOVER or WP:SONGTRIVIA. Also, WP:NOTRSMUSIC includes a list of sources that are not reliable for WP purposes, such as user-generated sites, like secondhandsongs and discogs. — Ojorojo ( talk) 15:05, 7 April 2021 (UTC) reply

I agree with this request. Another source you have used, 45cat.com, fails WP:USERG. The Joel Whitburn book you have been using is a great source, but it establishes that the cover exists, and the requirement at WP:SONGCOVER is higher than that. The cover version should be important to the topic. Binksternet ( talk) 17:23, 7 April 2021 (UTC) reply
Two months later and the same problems are continuing: user generated sources, such as Discogs.com, are not considered reliable sources for WP articles and should not be added to articles. Also, covers and appearances in films, etc., need reliable sources that discuss them as somehow noteworthy, not that they just exist. The above links provide more info. — Ojorojo ( talk) 14:16, 27 June 2021 (UTC) reply
Again, please do not continue to add user-generated sources, such as 45cat.com, discogs.com, and secondhandsongs.com to articles. These are not considered WP:RELIABLESOURCES (see entries on WP:NOTRSMUSIC). If a song or album is notable, there should be actual reliable sources available. — Ojorojo ( talk) 14:58, 13 January 2022 (UTC) reply

November 2022

Information icon Thank you for your edit to the disambiguation page Miranda. However, please note that disambiguation pages are not articles; rather, they are meant to help readers find a specific article quickly and easily. From the disambiguation dos and don'ts, you should:

  • Only list articles that readers might reasonably be looking for
  • Use short sentence fragment descriptions, with no punctuation at the end
  • Use exactly one navigable link (" blue link") in each entry
    • Only add a " red link" if used in existing articles, and include a "blue link" to an appropriate article
  • Do not pipe links (unless style requires it) – keep the full title of the article visible
  • Do not insert external links or references

Cover songs

Thanks for your edits to Wikipedia. Please review WP:COVERSONG before adding cover versions. Merely appearing on an album is not a sufficient reason to add a cover version. I realize that this guideline is often violated, but there's no need to add additional covers that don't meet the inclusion criteria. Thanks. Sundayclose ( talk) 21:04, 7 July 2023 (UTC) reply
