Re: Wikipedians Who Support Change Congress

To answer your first question, renaming the category to "Interested in Change Congress" would solve the support/oppose issue, but the category would still only support collaboration on a single article, and there is general consensus that we don't need categories that only relate to one article, since collaboration can better occur on the talk page of said article, so it would probably get deleted as well. The second question has several factors to it, the first being that categories are generally meant to facilitate collaboration amongst Wikipedians, and not simply be used for self-identification or social networking purposes. Userboxes are generally exempt from this because they are in the userspace, and the community allows a great deal of leeway on the content in userspace. Userboxes that are unencyclopedic can be made in the userspace, but the category space has no "userspace" equivalent. Unencyclopedic userboxes in the template namespace are generally moved to the userspace for this same reason, but since there is no userspace equivalent for the category space, the categories are deleted or renamed to a more collaboration-inducing title. Hope that answers your questions. VegaDark ( talk) 16:22, 24 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Would you be willing to work on this article? It is such a centralconcept. A year ago this article was a train-wreck filled with popular notions about "culture" and no serious research. I have since rewritten it to emphasize how "culture" is a concept used by academics, either as an object of study or as a heuristic device. Because of my own background the article is extremely biased towards anthropology. ButI know cultural studies is another academic field that makes culture an object of studies and is home to cultural theory and methods for the study of culture. Right now the article has a very good but very very abbreviated section on hw scholars of cultural studies use the concept, and study culture. It needs real expansion. Could you look it over and put some time into it? Thanks Slrubenstein | Talk 00:41, 6 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Thanks! It IS really big, and while I woud welcome your thoughts about any part of the article I focused on cultural studies because you seem to be intersted in it and it is one section that needs work.

I think eventually daughter articles will have to be spun off of this. But first Ithink it is important to develop a comprehensive and coherent account of the different meanings people give to the word culture, and how they study it. I came up with the current organization in an attempt to encompass diverse views and approaches. But once ALL significant views are included, we may see a better way to organize it. All this should be done before spinning of smaller articles. Best, Slrubenstein | Talk 11:04, 6 July 2009 (UTC) reply

Have you had any chance to improve the section on cultural studies, in the Culture article? I thought you had good ideas! Slrubenstein | Talk 00:32, 23 July 2009 (UTC) reply
