Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences, also abbreviated as AgVS or AVS, is a double-blind peer-reviewed open-access online journal published by Hawassa University, Ethiopia. AgVS used to be known by Journal of Science and Development, JSD, between 2011 and 2019, where it was being published as only Print-Journal. In

JSD was reformed in June 2021 as AgVS for better focus and narrower scope. AgVS appeared as an open-access online journal building up on the JSD. The founding Editors of JSD were Tesfaye Abebe Amdie (Professor of Agroforstry and Production Ecology at Hawassa University) and Ferdu Azerefegne (Associate Professor of Applied Entomology at Hawassa University). Yifat Denbarga, who served as journal manager for JSD is still serving the same position for AgVS, taking the honor of longest serving editorial member. The former editors are now overseeing the activities and progresses of the journal as Editorial Board Members.

Tadesse Fikre Teferra (Assistant Professor of Food Science and Technology at Hawassa University) is acting as the Editor-in-Chief of AgVS. The other associate (section editors) include: Asefa Asmare Alemu, Professor of Veterinary Medicine, Hawassa University. Samuel Bekele Mengistu, Assistant Professor of Animal Genetics and Aquaponics at Hawassa University College of Agriculture. Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences publishes research articles, review articles, short communications, book reviews, and registry of new crop varieties. The aim of Agricultural and Veterinary Sciences is to expand knowledge in basic and applied scientific and empirical research output and development, provide access to research publications to a broad national and international readership, including researchers, practitioners, and students in agricultural and veterinary sciences. Articles are peer-reviewed by at least two referees. Reviewers will remain confidential. The Editor may reject, before submission to referees, those manuscripts that do not conform to the ‘Guide to Authors’, or that do not fall within the scope and purpose of the Journal.
