I tried a dozen times to use Template:U to ping you in my response on Talk:List of fatal dog attacks in the United States but no matter how I cut and pasted your username, or handtyped it, I could not come up with a valid preview that looked right. I settled for a cut and paste of the simple text "7&6=thirteen". But putting that into the pinging template like {{u|7&6=thirteen}} in any form resulted in a mess at preview. Reading your positive comment about the progress of one article is much appreciated (especially because this space is where work done is scrutinized by some to the point of excessive criticism). Just my opinion... I think this round of AfDs is a result of the nominator's unconscious bias against older subjects just as much or more than it is against other cultures. They probably did see the then-weak articles as mere genealogy listings -- many articles about non-notability have gone to AfD in the past few months. And then didn't do the kind of thorough BEFOREs that are best to do before nominating. I think the user didn't factor in how hungry the public has been for writings about anyone related to Wounded Knee and Little Big Horn since those events happened. So many sources to be checked. I'm guessing they have little experience in the military space too. I see that the person commented on your talk page that they usually nominate rap musicians. The kind of coverage modern musicians get is very different from what 19th-century warriors get. But I don't think they mean ill. Just a case of limited context/research experience and underestimating the abilities of Wikipedians and they're getting defensive when their work is called out (as it has been by me). That happens all the time in AfDs. (I also see a lack of moderation--when nominating articles in a new area, why not just nominate 1-5 articles and see how it goes?) I'm not sure what needs working out. A user already left a message on my talk page and I gave an honest answer. Most of my AFDs are to rap musicians, but I stumbled upon an article about a Native American and noticed that a number of similar or linked articles appeared completely non-notable. AFDs followed, though I speedy-closed one. Most of the AFDs have a number of delete votes, so I'm not sure this is unwarranted, or that removing non-notable biographies (or voting to delete them) is genocide or race eradication. People's feelings regarding particular topics is irrelevant, and Wikipedia isn't a loonie liberal arts college. Magnolia677 ( talk) 21:43, 1 October 2020 (UTC)

I think I understand where the confusion is. NASA's APOD commonly republishes other peoples' images, and provides image credits, and sometimes links to the licenses. It didn't in the case in question (likely because the exact license is unknown), but does credit NAIC/NSF, which as a standard does not freely license their photos. ɱ (talk) 18:06, 1 December 2020 (UTC)

Actor/wrestler/track star. Over 200 acting credits as a character actor. Just died. Worked on WP:ITN. It got rejected in a perverse exercise of ITN. ITN nomination is dead. Perverse result due to sourcing issues. I had similar experiences with Dr. John and Neil Peart. Large articles and prolific important artists; who got willfully ignored at ITN because the vast list of their works did not have sourcing that satisfied the cabal. Like several other people, I received an email from 7&6=thirteen asking me to post the above appeal; apparently their talk page access was blocked as well as their editing ability.

This block needs to be undone; it is a good-faith but accidental miscarriage of justice; apparently they were caught up in a purge related to proxy accounts. But 7&6 is a long-established, exemplary editor, with more than 100,000 edits, here since 2007 with a clean block log in all that time. They have collaborated productively with me for many years. We need them back.

Someone please explain to them what they have to do to get themselves out of this unwarranted block. Yamla advised "disable your proxy/vpn" and wait 24 hours; will that do it? The range was blocked by User:ST47 for three years [2], but it does not appear to prevent talk page access. I'm not a techie either, so I can't advise anything other than Yamla suggests above. 7&6=thirteen, I was asked to look into this by a few TPS. So the range you mentioned was also globally blocked. When ranges are globally blocked by m:Stewards, you are not able to use your talkpage to appeal locally, but only at meta I've been told. This is why you couldn't appeal here, and you would have had to have contacted the stewards to get anything done, it wasn't a local admin that blocked you. Either way, you can always appeal to WP:UTRS or use the IRC unblock channel. That being said, the range has been blocked for a good reason. I tried to look as deep as I could to see what you may have enabled to tell you how to prevent it in the first place. The best idea I could come up with is you installed a browser extension between 13:33 and 16:57 UTC that changed your IP to a proxy editing out of the middle of France (on a webhost). If you need more help in trying to figure this out, I'd be happy to discuss things in private. I'm not exactly a new Wikipedia editor at this point, but I've only semi-recently started looking beyond just making articles, and into the more behind the scenes administration of Wikipedia, and I have some questions about the the 50,000 Challenge if you don't mind me asking. If there are better places I could be asking this, let me know.

So, the 50,000 Challenge is something I found out about fairly early on, but I think I've been contributing to it incorrectly so far. I did not realize that I was supposed to put my articles on a list on the WikiProject page. My main question is this: Should I go back and put the relevant, start and lengthy stub articles (like Lorenzo T. Durand, Vernon J. Brown, and Eugene R. Cater) on this list now, even if some of the articles are more than a year old? Or should I start to just make a habit of putting new articles I make on the lists on the Wikiproject page.

Also, I wanted to ask if my state legislature district pages would be a good fit for the 50,000 Challenge or not. Should I add a page like Michigan's 87th House of Representatives district to the list or not?

The addition of categories that are supported by the article's content isn't vandalism, as far as I'm concerned. Interesting stuff - but as I read it (page 103), it's not using 2000m to define a mountain pass, it's using a distance of 2000m between a mountain pass and summit as a way to categorize different mountain "groups" - sizes and types, I think. So it's not that a height difference of, say, 1800m isn't a pass - it's still a pass but in a different (lower?) category of mountain. The way I read your edit to the article, I took it to mean that anything less than 2000m isn't a "mountain pass" at al, which is why I checked out the reference. I use clippings from this subscription all the time. It is my place now-a-days for references and sources, since the libraries in my state are closed. Mary Florence Potts is an example where I used news clips extensively and it became a Good Article. Another trick-of-the trade is to use a previous news clip reference form for your next news clip reference. Just copy it and make the updated information. Butting in here as a talk page watcher and waving at 7&6: Hi, Wisdomwiki 40. I was curious about your comments here so I looked at the AfD in question (the consensus to delete was clear, and the closer is not expected to respond to comments in the discussion) and the deleted article (using my magic spectacles). You worked hard to argue that he was notable because of his inventions, but the biography does not and probably cannot demonstrate notability for him personally. He himself just hasn't gotten much coverage. But here's a thought: if you think one of his inventions is particularly notable - you mentioned Absolute Public Key Cryptography at the AfD - you might try creating a draft about that invention, at which you would of course mention the inventor. Just a thought. I've been away for a while. Winters are especially difficult here and take all of our effort just to survive, generally. The opinions of others are just that, opinions. They are relevant in the sense they are real, however, very few have ever tried to walk in my shoes and understand the expressed views that I share but then expect me to accept their opinion as fact and adopt it into my way of thinking. That just doesn't work with me. I guess it's my lot in life. Sometimes I am the antagonist and sometimes the protagonist and I like to keep people guessing which one I am in the moment. But, in actuality, it's only a guess because no one really knows me or takes the time to get to know me through anything I have written. And why should they? I am just words on a screen. Because the article Tom's Ice Cream Bowl is worth saving. You are right. There are millions of articles that need improvement. This is now better than most of them. Deletion should be a last resort. Casting aspersions or dictating how other editors do their work is not going to make Wikipedia a better encyclopedia. We editors all are the sum of our individual choices.
