Welcome

Hello, Urbanchirk, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you edited appears to be dealing with a topic with which you may have a conflict of interest. In other words, you may find it difficult to write about that topic in a neutral and objective way, because you are, work for, or represent, the subject of that article. Your recent contributions may have already been reverted for this very reason.

To reduce the chances of deletion, you might like to draft your article before submission, then ask me or any other editor to proofread it. To start creating a draft article, just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit that page as you would any other. If the page you created has already been deleted from Wikipedia, but you want to save the content from it to use for that draft, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

The one firm rule we do have in connection with conflicts of interest is that accounts used by more than one person will unfortunately be blocked from editing. It is also worth noting that Wikipedia generally does not allow editors to have usernames which specifically link them to one company or corporation. If your username does have such a name, it would be advisable for you to request a change of username.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! You can also just type {{ helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!   Velella   Velella Talk   10:49, 25 August 2011 (UTC) reply

Please note that it is not acceptable to copy and paste text from the Kronospan website into the Wikipedia article on the company, for both reasons of copyright and neutrality. Wikipedia articles are not to be used for promotional purposes. (See here for more detail on this.) Thanks -- 88.104.46.22 ( talk) 10:54, 25 August 2011 (UTC) reply

Draft version of Kronospan

The usual protocol is to draft the revised version in your own user-space. For example you could create User:Urbanchirk/Kronospan and draft the article there (to create that page just click on the red-link in the previous sentence and it will take you to the blank page where you can copy and paste the current version to use as a start). I would be happy to comment on your draft version and will leave comments on your talk page.   Velella   Velella Talk   10:55, 5 September 2011 (UTC) reply

I have copy and pasted the current version and would be very greatful if you could make some comments. Thanks Urbanchirk ( talk) 12:20, 5 September 2011 (UTC) reply

Your latest version is very like (perhaps the same as ?) the version on the main article space that I severely edited. The main issues are :
  1. Much material is lifted directly from the Kronospan web-site - this is unacceptable as it is direct copyright violation.
  2. Heading such as "About us" indicate a strong degree of ownership . Nobody "owns" the article on Kronospan, and writing as if it does is designed to attract editors armed with scissors.
  3. The list of products (and the list in general) need both substantial shortening , a bringing together of the various product lists and having some explanatory text against each items. Consider - is this thing that Kronospan sells encyclopaedic - for most I would guess not. How about just the major product headings. Items without an explanation are going to be incomprehensible
  4. Avoid text about internal management stuff - the H&S paragraph stands out like a sore thumb - bear in mind this for an external audience that probably couldn't care how safe Kronospan's workers are . I would delete the who paragraph.
  5. The environmental credentials section looks very much like boasting - again other editors will savage that. There is also a strange dichotomy with lists of environmental credentials and then, in a totally separate section, a well referenced list of environmental problems. All the environmental issues need to be brought together - perhaps Kronospan worked towards its current credentials because of past problems ?( and I'm not even sure whether the Press picked up the discharge of high ammonia levels from the water storage ponds below the wood stacking area)
  6. It is probably worth looking at some other manufacturers sites such as Solutia or Kellogs - both sites not far from you to see some better (but not good) examples of articles.
  7. Avoid phrases such as "...Kronospan serves the UK.." - this is salesman talk not encyclopaedia talk.
  8. The sentence which includes "...investment in decontamination technology.." doesn't actually make sense to me. What landfill waste is re-used by whom ?
As a very general rule try re-drafting it imagining that it is being read by a young teenager living perhaps in Samoa or some other location many thousands of miles from Chirk who knows nothing about wood products, "modern" kitchens or anything that Kronospan might consider important. I would be happy to comment on further iterations. Regards.   Velella   Velella Talk   12:54, 5 September 2011 (UTC) reply

I have looked at this section and in particular the references provided and have looked in detail at the certification schemes referred to. As far as Wikipedia goes I don't think any of the references stand up to scrutiny. I am sure that the certification is correct (although we don't need reference numbers etc. in Wikipedia) but I couldn't find that the backed the assertions made. Looking at certification of use of sustainable forests, the PDF file seems to show that there is an exemption in force until December 2012. The Blue Green reference is to another company working with Kronospan - this is a primary source in Wikipedia terms and Wikipedia requires reliable secondary sources. After all anyone could go to a friendly company and have them write something nice . I am sure that this is not the case with a reputable company like Kronospan but Wikipedia does require wholly independent sources. What I have put below therefore no longer has any sources and if included in the article is at risk of deletion as un-sourced. Area there no reputable sources from the quality national press or a listing on an Environment Agency site for example? This is my version of your original above

Kronospan claims that all products made at Chirk can be traced to a sustainably managed UK forest and are Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. The company also claims that its chipboard products are carbon neutral, that it recycles 300,000 tonnes of waste wood and that 97% of its waste is either recycled or recovered for energy.

I have replied also on the article talk page. The tl;dr version is: Kronospan are not really notable for anything other than their history as serial polluters, and organisations that create articles about themselves as page holders/puff pieces should expect to take the rough with the smooth. Looking for nice things

Unlike most of the people editing the Kronospan page, I don't work for them, but even I can find a few nice things that they could say. (Kronospan, you're paying the wrong people to write it /wink) How about:

  • A subsidiary of the the company, Kronospan Forestry Ltd., manages over 1000 hectares of sustainable forests in the south-west of Scotland. This includes both young forests as well as mid-age plantations offering greater wildlife diversity. In 1999 the company joined the Forest Stewardship Council scheme, which ensures that sustainable practices are used. [1] In 2003 Kronospan was one of the first organisations to sign up with the Carbon Trust in Wales for a pilot programme to manage carbon emissions. [2] [3] Kronospan also works with Business in the Community Wales (BICW) which aims to address key social issues in the most deprived rural and urban areas of Wales. [4]

A tag has been placed on User:Urbanchirk/Kronospan, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion".
