Regarding
this comment: I'm not sure you've thought through the implications changing WP: from a shortcut to the Wikipedia: namespace to a shortcut to a different namespace. I also suspect you will get a lot of negative feedback for proposing a new namespace purely based on personal aesthetic appeal. Note that
Wikipedia:Chess already redirects to the corresponding WikiProject page, and Project is already an alias for the Wikipedia namespace, so there isn't much additional advantage gained.

I never said that WP:CHESS would be changed from Wikipedia:CHESS to WikiProject:CHESS. Also, the Project: namespace redirects you to the project's namespace. For example, on Wiktionary, going to Project:Foo would take you to Wiktionary:Foo. - The Master ofclockHedgehogsclock(

I don't really know what you mean by the first sentence. In your village pump posting, you seemed to be proposing that a WP: prefix be used as a redirect to your new proposed WikiProject: namespace. This would affect all the WP: redirects, which are handled by the MediaWiki software. Regarding the second sentence, was your proposal intending to affect all WMF sites? I don't think the concept of WikiProjects is applicable to all of them. Getting a new default namespace in the MediaWiki software will need a more rigourous case to be made for its utility.

To quote the post:
"Maybe the shortcut could still be WP: because WikiProject and WikiPedia share the letters W and P?"
Yes, I understood your proposal. But this doesn't relate to your first sentence, and it would affect how MediaWiki needs to process any WP: prefix, since it can't tell until it does the processing what the intended destination is.

I don't know what you're asking.

Wasn't intended to be a question. Just being confused about whether or not cross-namespace redirects would work. - The Master ofclockHedgehogsclock(

Work for what? If you're just asking yourself rhetorically, though, good to know.
