Listen pal, I don’t know how to cite, but I’m telling the truth about the appearances of the P-51 and P-40 in the films I’ve listed. Check out the articles I’ve linked there, there’s no deception going on! I just thought that since those films which I know those planes star or appear in didn’t show up in the list, I should add them. Just because I don’t know how to cite doesn’t mean those additions should be taken away! Ace of Aces12 ( talk) 18:54, 4 January 2022 (UTC)

This is a standard message to notify contributors about an administrative ruling in effect. It does not imply that there are any issues with your contributions to date.
You have shown interest in the intersection of race/ethnicity and human abilities and behaviour. Due to past disruption in this topic area, a more stringent set of rules called discretionary sanctions is in effect. Any administrator may impose sanctions on editors who do not strictly follow Wikipedia's policies, or the page-specific restrictions, when making edits related to the topic.
For additional information, please see the guidance on discretionary sanctions and the Arbitration Committee's decision here. If you have any questions, or any doubts regarding what edits are appropriate, you are welcome to discuss them with me or any other editor.

I appreciate your edit on the references, specially switching the number dates to written dates, but what's up with replacing [...] with ... on quotes that were cut short? Isn't [...] the correct way to do it? It is where I live anyway. I just wanted to clear that up because I don't want to revert your edit. -- GustavoCza ( talk) 23:05, 27 May 2022 (UTC)
"Occasionally, square brackets are placed around an ellipsis to make clear that it isn't original to the material being quoted, for example if the quoted passage itself contains an ellipsis". So generally, I only keep the square brackets if they are indicating something beyond a plain ellipsis. Does that make sense? Thanks and let me know if there's anything I can do to help. Also the date fixes are easy with User:Ohconfucius/script/MOSNUM dates; it's not perfect (so I double check), but it takes care of a lot of otherwise tedious work. Greetings,
I'm hoping you can explain the grammatical rule or style standard that suggests that " "lists" should be capitalized in this context. All the best. --~ T P W 17:18, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
"for the species Canis familiaris, see Dog"because I'm directing them to an article by name rather than the topic of dogs. If the sentence had been
"See these lists of covers of Time magazine", I think lower case would be right, but it said
"For other decades, see Lists of covers of Time magazine"referring to a named list. There are bunch of examples at Wikipedia:Hatnote which use the "see ..." format and those capitalize the link as the name of an article. Does that make sense to you? SchreiberBike | ⌨ 21:10, 23 June 2022 (UTC)
"believe that Wikipedia article titles are, in and of themselves, proper names."It seems uncontroversial that when referring to an article title as an article title, it is a proper name. I can't think of a guideline that states that directly, but it certainly is common practice. I looked at the article Wikipedia, did a ctl-f for "see" and looked for links to article titles that begin with common nouns. The first five are:
"a specific policy, or style manual entry, that supports [my] supposition", but it seems apparent that Wikipedia article titles are proper nouns when referred to as article titles. Do you find that clear? SchreiberBike | ⌨ 15:16, 24 June 2022 (UTC)

Hey, IP user here, just notifying you that I fixed a broken image on the "Sterling silver" article. I think your change on July 4th caused to break - the name for the file had "c. 1875" in it, which you had changed to a "circa" template, meaning it couldn't reference the image file. It is a bit weird that the image file's name itself had "c. 1875" in the first place, but it should be good now. 128.163.248.203 ( talk) 19:46, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Please note: MOS:NUM does not apply to citations, and it explicitly says as much. WP:CITESTYLE states dates should be presented with big, or little, endianness (DD-MM-YYYY, YYYY-MM-DD) but not mixed endian (M-D-Y, etc).
Also: citation tools built into the Web interface automagically populate the 'date' parameter in D-M-Y format.
Please try not to alter them too much going forward. Thank you. -- dsprc [talk] 01:27, 8 October 2022 (UTC)

Hi SchreiberBike. I wanted to let you know that in this edit, while you were correct to change the "m" to a comma, changing "190" to "19" was incorrect because the citation was to "issue 190" of the magazine, dated "December 2018". I've now converted the reference to use the {{ cite magazine}} template. Thanks for your efforts nevertheless. XAM2175 (T) 11:33, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

New contest!
|
This month has seen an incredible amount of activity creating high quality content, with 3 FAs, 3 FACs, and a veritable flood of GAs and GANs, not to mention the FLs and FLCs. To help maintain this high level of activity going forward, WikiProject Tree of Life is starting a new monthly rolling contest, inspired by the contest run by WikiProject Military History. This contest should hopefully help incentivize editors to contribute in ways that are less daunting than writing articles that are GA and FA-quality. Even improving articles from stub to start class, or helping other editors by reviewing their work at GAN, FAC, or FLC, gets you points, with bonus points for articles with especially high page views. Make sure to participate in any way you can, and help improve the 'pedia while having fun and winning Barnstars! |
