Why did you take out the coordinates for the Ames Power Plant? It seems pretty standard information. Additionally, it is not easy to find the plant without the coordinates. User talk:Never been to spain
Hello NortyNort. Being the two latest editors (along with Wtshymanski) who edited the article, I would like to hear on what you think about the new merged version. I intend to change the article to that version soon as discussed on the article talkpage. Please share your views here. Thanks. Kind regards. Rehman( +) 13:36, 26 June 2010 (UTC)
Hello NortyNort, welcome back. Please see this discussion when you get the time. Kind regards. Rehman( +) 10:41, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
I've done a sweep through the article and cleaned up a lot of small rephrasings, Manual of Style issues, that kind of thing. If Fasach Nua feels an image fails NFCC, it's generally not worth arguing about, he is most likely right, and in this case, with so many images (although I loved that cartoon), it is not worth the fight. A but unhappy there aren't more comments, but it is early days yet.-- Wehwalt ( talk) 13:07, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

In recognition of your contributions toward getting Hoover Dam to FA. All I did was clean up the concrete and put in a little grout, you guys built those big concrete blocks. Wehwalt ( talk) 12:18, 3 July 2010 (UTC) |
Thanks, i'm sure we could do those dam analogies all day. Now I can get back to fun things like fixing all the lists of tallest dams.-- NortyNort ( talk) 12:25, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Definitely, I had thought about the Three Gorges Dam as it is the only other dam on such a monumental level, particularly in the media. But hard information is hard to come by, especially on the internet, most of it is in Chinese. I do have a few others in mind though.-- NortyNort ( talk) 12:30, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Yea, the Glen Canyon and Grand Coulee have some cool images but nothing tops their site on the Hoover. I was think of getting one of the dam/power plant lists as featured, doesn't seem as hard as an article.-- NortyNort ( talk) 12:49, 3 July 2010 (UTC)
Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.
Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.
For the guideline on reviewing, see Wikipedia:Reviewing. Being granted reviewer rights doesn't change how you can edit articles even with pending changes. The general help page on pending changes can be found here, and the general policy for the trial can be found here.
If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. 7 07:02, 4 July 2010 (UTC)
You seem to be engaged in an edit war at Presidency of Barack Obama. Please use the talk page rather than simply reverting edits, and keep in mind that the burden is on editors who wish to add disputed content and/or change the status quo of the article. As you may be aware, there is reasonable concern that the editor who is proposing these edits is a sockpuppet of a banned user, and to some extent these edits have been discussed and rejected in the past. Also, in case you don't know the article in question is subject to article probation as well - see the talk page header. Overall, as I will comment on the article talk page, it is better to restore the article to its stable version while awaiting any consensus to change. Thanks, - Wikidemon ( talk) 09:19, 8 July 2010 (UTC)

I was thinking the article should be expanded in prose ( Wikipedia:DYKTN#fivefold). Several of my DYK expanded articles were written in that way and they were promoted? I do not understand. I agreed that the hook was not correct, perhaps ... that according to Scrivener. Scrivener's opinion was cited by several authors (e.g. Robert Waltz in 2002). Hello NortyNort. Was wondering if you managed to fix your Commons account? I realize that you have a good touch in maintenance tasks, so just want to let you know that you are more than welcome to help out at Commons. I have recently come across a big obstacle; Category:Hydroelectricity (recently renamed from Cat:Hydroelectric power). Which nearly everything and anything associated with it needs complete cleanup, and renaming of subcats itself. I am looking for someone related to the topic at Commons to discuss everything from what to do and how to start. Hope to see you there. Cheers. Rehman( +) 13:13, 24 July 2010 (UTC)
Great work on Bailey's Dam Site. I noticed in your DYK nom you wrote "the Union Army's Mississippi River Squadron during the Civil War". I took the liberty of linking to American Civil War, but according to the MRS article, it was a Union Navy squadron by 1864. I see you changed it to Army so I didn't want to mess with it without checking, in case you know something I don't. Station1 ( talk) 22:49, 24 July 2010 (UTC)

Hi, I just want to let you know that I had to undo the damage that one of your edits left behind. Your edit summary didn't mention the removal of the template {{ U.S. Congressional opposition to war}}, so I'm assuming that it was unintentional. All the same, that very important template was missing from the article for 6 months (frankly, I'm appalled that nobody else noticed it before now). Hi NortyNort! I usually like being politely informed of it when I've made some mistake, and I imagine the same might be true of you, as well? Relying on that faith, then, I'd like to let you know that I saw, some days ago, that another editor had reverted something like 50 of your edits. You had gone through articles named "Agriculture in <country name>" and tagged each article with the category "Economy of <country name>". The other editor reverted those edits, I took exception to his reversions, and he then explained his rationale. He wrote,
"... the agriculture by country categories are included in economy by country. To include the actual agriculture article in a countries economy category is redundant..."
I understood him to mean that, for example, the article Agriculture in Israel is included in the Category:Agriculture in Israel, and that this category is itself included in the Category:Economy of Israel. This arrangement of categorization thus seems to make it unnecessary to include the agriculture article itself in the national economy category. His explanation made sense to me - although I'll be the first to admit I have little experience working with categories - and I thought you might like to know of this, and perhaps to look back over your August 3rd country-agriculture edits, as at least some of them (e.g Agriculture in Syria) appear to have been overlooked by the other editor's reversions. More generally, if this also makes sense to you, perhaps it'd be good practice, before adding a category tag to an article, to check whether any of the article's existing categories is included in the category you're considering adding?
On a more cheerful note, I observe from your talk page that you have a strong interest in dams. A few weeks ago, just to have something interesting to read over lunch, I picked up a copy of The Organic Machine: The Remaking of the Columbia River, by Richard White, from a local bookstall, for the grand sum of fifty cents. As you may know, the Columbia River has a total of 12 dams along its length (including, of course, the Grand Coulee dam) and this book is largely about those dams. I had no particular interest in dams, really; I'm just something of an omnivore in my reading, and the book was cheap. But it turned out to be fascinating reading! It's a short book, just over 100 pages, but I liked the "systems" approach it brought to the subject, its treatment of the river as a dynamic ecosystem or "organic machine", to use the author's phrase. I suppose you've seen the book? If not, I think it's one you might enjoy very much. Best regards, – OhioStandard ( talk) 10:20, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
Hi NortyNort, Thanks for the invite. I got into dams because of my interest in Syria and Iraq (didn't know much about dams before I started editing them for Wikipedia). As there aren't that many dams left over in those countries that I can write something about (or more importantly, about which something can be found on the internet; I know a few more Iraqi dams/barrages by name, but simply nothing has been written about them in western languages), I am not sure whether I will continue writing about dams. On the other hand, they turned out to be much more interesting than I thought (especially the political stuff), so I could maybe continue with Iran. And there are some archaeological dams/weirs in Syria that haven't been covered yet. Anyway, I'll think about it! -- Zoeperkoe ( talk) 00:22, 9 August 2010 (UTC)
