Image uploads

First thanks for contributing to Wikipedia. Now about those photos, please do not upload photos just with a description: "Miss USA winner pictured" or "Miss USA contestant pictured", please write who is in the picture. Also taking pictures from secondary fan pages [1] is not a good way, please use official pages since fan pages cannot give out permissions for promotional use. See Image:Allie LaForce.jpg for well sourced image upload. Try to give Your image uploads descriptive names, not usa2005s.jpg but name.competition.year.jpg or similar. Also give the exact source page of the image not merely http://www.misshongkongpageant.com . Please do not upload pictures with description "e-mailed to me" with fair use promo licence, there is no way this can be verified as such, is there? Thanks. feydey 00:41, 19 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Thanks a bunch! Appreciate it - glad I got onto you quickly :) (love how HELPFUL everyone is around here :) ) CarlyPalmer 04:07, 19 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Hi Feydey, not still sure if you're watching but thanks for sorting this out for me. I've gone back and resourced all the photos and I think everything is okay now :) CarlyPalmer 21:18, 19 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Deal or No Deal edits.

Sure thing. We only really need to link dates when something notable happened with the article subject. There is no real hard and fast rule about this, so it doesn't really matter, but awhile back there was some discussion, so I thought I'd comply while I was already making other edits. It isn't anything huge, so don't worry about it. See you around, my friend. Oh, if I wasn't clear, or if you have other questions, don't hesitate to ask. It's how we all learn. Cheers. -- LV (Dark Mark) 03:01, 21 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Thanks for the clarification :) I love how friendly and helpful people are around here :) CarlyPalmer 03:03, 21 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Well, we try. I mean... my Dark Lord self isn't friendly or helpful... how dare you say such a thing?! :-) Wikipedia is generally a nice place. Welcome, and I hope you stick around. You've done some nice work on the Miss Teen USA articles. See ya. -- LV (Dark Mark) 03:06, 21 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Hey

Hey Carly! Thanks for the message on my talk page. I love receiving compliments, who doesn't? :) I've checked out the article you mentioned and it's good. Glad to see you've settled in so well here. -- kingboyk 08:52, 21 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Adding notable alumni

Hi. When you add alumni, could you add a citation with the entry. For instance in Millikan High School I made this . It's unimportant what format you use (see WP:CITE for details). This is recommended for any facts people might question. Sometimes a kid in a high school might make something up (say a person attended, but didn't). An editor unfamiliar with the school, and the person, can't tell if it's truthful, sillieness, or just a mistake, without a source; and may well remove it (I have removed many unsourced notable alumni, and other unproven facts). -- Rob 01:48, 22 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Hi... I saw that edit, so what's wrong with someone simply clicking on the link to Soben's Page? Lol I'll never get some of these wiki things :P Anyway, I put in quite a few notable alumni entries this morning, so again, its going to be a biggish job to fix them all :P CarlyPalmer 01:50, 22 March 2006 (UTC) reply

I'm starting to think, that given the large amount of information you've been adding to Miss USA about the 2006 event (and more too come when its actually held), it might be best to spin it off into a separate article. In the long-term, I can't see this much year-specific information being retained in this article (e.g. what happens in 2007, 2008, etc...). Obviously, lots of shows have per-season or per-episode articles. The only reason I can see for not doing it, is some other editors may object, and want to a "merge back" (I'm hoping that's not the case). -- Rob 02:42, 23 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Hi Rob, sounds like a good idea! If you think about the most recent edits of that and the other pages it seems like you and I are doing most of the work (at the moment) so I guess we can decide on that for now :) CarlyPalmer 02:46, 23 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Why in the hell are you adding every last contestant? They really and truly aren't noteworthy enough to be in Wikipedia. Most of them will disappear forever from public sight after the pageant. —This unsigned comment was added by Williamb ( talkcontribs) .
This isn't even MISS America pageant it's the second string one, that has trouble getting enough sponsors so that the networks will even bother to carry it. Williamb 07:35, 23 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Because one day some of them will become famous at some level and it will be nice to be able to look back on these. Despite the obvious point that with the pageant in one month people might be interested in finding out more about the delegates. There are numerous Miss USA delegates from previous years who it would have been good to have articles written about them at the time, and now we can simply fill in from hindsight. If you're going to make a point in that manner, perhaps you could/should be so bold as to sign off? CarlyPalmer 02:59, 23 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Williamb, I suggest the state-winners are notable, as they're competing in a famous competition at a national level. This is analogous to athletes who compete at the highest national level. All are public figures, who, even if they don't win nationally, will receive state/local media coverage over the course of the year (for responsibilities from their state title), and likely beyond. -- Rob 03:09, 23 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Rob I've created the article - didn't take much, just adjusting the lead slightly but I think its okay now - good idea :) (Miss USA page doesn't even have discussion so I won't leave a note unless anyone squeaks)

Yes, your right, Peter Snell won the gold at the Empire games not the Commonwealth games. As it was it was incorrect, but I happy with your changes. (It sliped my mind that it was the Empire games, I regared them as just a name change :) Best Wishes Brian | (Talk) 05:41, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply

That's okay :) It probably wasn't clear enough as is, and as you'll see I explained it further... I kept hearing that last night over and over again so I thought it'd be worth including :P Go Kiwi! PageantUpdater 05:55, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Yes it is nice that we got a gold in the netball, finally after 8 years, I'm glad it was an Aussie, NZ match :). Brian | (Talk) 06:53, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply
IIRC SPARC were saying that we should get about 40+ medals, this year, we only ended up with 31 :( Brian | (Talk) 06:53, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply
Watching the medal cermony now!!:P Brian | (Talk) 06:56, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply
What I think is ridiculous is that they're talking about pulling the plug on some funding where athletes didn't perform - seems backward's to me! PageantUpdater 07:00, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Change of Name

To anyone watching this (please say there is someone???!!!) I just want to give notice that I'm applying to get my accountname changed to "PageantUpdater". I suddenly "clicked" yesterday to some privacy issues and for that reason I'm keen to change to something more anonymous! CarlyPalmer 22:56, 26 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Well now you mention it I did wonder who PageantUpdater is! :) I don't have your page on watch any more but I saw the new username in the History of my talk page. -- kingboyk 07:04, 27 March 2006 (UTC) reply

Amanda Gilman/Amber Copley

Your newly created Amanda Gilman article looks like it was accidentally copied and pasted from the Amber Copley article without the necessary changes to make it Miss Gilman's article. -- Icarus 05:25, 3 April 2006 (UTC) reply

Thanks for pointing this out... I notice my mistake as soon as I'd okayed the article, and have since copied the page to Amber Copley and created the correct Amanda Gilman page :) PageantUpdater

Disambiguation of model

Hi. The correct page that your contributions should point to is model (person) and not model or modelling. If you continue to use model then it will be just more work for someone to disambig them later. An example to help you is my edit on Kimberly Forsyth. Thanks -- PTSE 01:40, 11 April 2006 (UTC) reply

Someone removed Lisa Wilson off Rome, Georgia

Hello, I am also a resident of Rome, Georgia. I noticed someone has removed her name off Rome, Georgia. I checked the user but that was ayanomus (sp?) so it is possible to vandal that. I wonder if you want me to restore her name. You have seen my works of articles including picture of Rome, Georgia. Drop me a talk. Thanks user:cculber007 09:14, 15 June 2006 (UTC) reply
