The following discussion is in response to the following message on 2nd February 2006:

I have posted this message on the talk pages of all the current
bureacrats:
I am seeking your guidance and advice on a particular issue. Mahuri page on wikipedia was initiated by me, and I have contributed to the page from time to time. As per policy of the wikipedia anyone can use the contents of wikipedia, but I understand that use of such contents should indicate the source, that is, the wikipedia. The contents of the page Mahuri have been used in the site mahurivaisya without giving any reference to wikipedia - though I am glad that they have used our contents. In this case, a problem may arise at a future date if that website takes a stand that the contents of page Mahuri on wikipedia have been copied from that site and thus violates copyrights. In an alternative scenario, a user here may tag our Mahuri page with copyright violation under the impression that our contents have been copied from that site, reference to which was given by me long back as an external link when that site was not active and having only a welcome page. Although I am not aware of any such issue, which wikipedians may have encountered in the past, I believe that such a situation may have arisen earlier too. I seek your advice and guidance to deal with this issue, which you are requested to please post on my talk page. I also utilize this opportunity to say Hello to you.<unquote>
-- Bhadani 10:13, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I found that the site under reference has since removed our contents. This matter may be treated as closed - however, such issues pertaining to other pages/ contents of wikipedia may surface from time to time. -- Bhadani 16:13, 4 February 2006 (UTC)
I would suggest taking it to somewhere like WP:AN or the Village pump - I have seen questions like this, I know there is something of a form letter for dealing with this. Have a look at the Signpost - I recall several people following up plagiarism by a Hawaiian newspaper reporter. The edit history should protect us in the even of a challenge of copyright, but it would also be useful to put a note to that effect on the talk page to forestall anyone marking it as a copyvio. Guettarda 13:56, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you so much for pointing that out to me. I will look into it and contact the website today. All the best. Danny 14:44, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Thank you for your very pleasant message. I notice you have already found the page
Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks/Mno, which I would have suggested listing this issue on, however I would also suggest that you use the format as suggested at
Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks as other users will find it easier to extract the necessary information they need from your statement that way. Best of luck with it, and if you need anything else please do not hesitate to get back in touch with me. --

Hello, Bhadani, glad to meet you! :)
As I see it, there is no problem that the site you mention could turn around and accuse Wikipedia of copyvio if the material is original to us/you. Although I am most familiar with U.S. law, I'm certain that prior use is a definitive defense to copyvio virtually anywhere in the world. Since all versions are preserved in our database, it is easy enough to prove we published it first.
As to taking action against the other site for not putting the Wikipedia as source, I imagine Wikimedia Foundation could send them a letter or even take legal action, but I have nothing to do with that and don't know how inclined Jimbo or whoever is to go after these issues.
It might be a good idea, as others have suggested, to put a note on the talk page about the infringing site to let them know that THEY are infinging US and not v.v. If anyone tries to speedy delete this as copyvio, let me (or most admins) know and I will look into it and comment or restore it as necessary. Cheers, Cecropia 16:43, 2 February 2006 (UTC)
Bhadani, it appears that you may have contacted quite a number of us with your concern about mirroring and copyright infringement claims. I have nothing to add to the comments that Cecropia and others have already made. The Uninvited Co., Inc. 17:42, 2 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi! Yes, it is a serious issue and we have to raise awareness. First try asking them to comply to our licence using a Wikipedia:Standard GFDL violation letter. See also Wikipedia:Mirrors and forks#Non-compliance process Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:35, 3 February 2006 (UTC)
I thank you all for suitably guiding me in the matter. I have few moments before posted these comments on the talk page of Mahuri:

Hi Bhadani/Archive05, thanks for participating in my RfA discussion. Unfortunately, my fellow Wikipedians have decided at this time that I am not suitable to take on this additional responsibility, as the RfA failed with a result of 66/27/5 (71.0% support). If you voted in support of my request, thank you! If you decided to oppose me at this time, then I hope that if I do choose to reapply in the future, the effort I will make in the meantime to improve and expand my contributions to Wikipedia may persuade you to reconsider your position. Today three weeks have passed since I was granted access to the administrator toolbox. During this time I have made use of it in the following way:
I've found that the rollback tool is much more useful than I'd thought for vandalism patrol. In fact it makes that task so easy that I've been doing it more than before. On the other hand I've been surprised by how little the blocking tool is needed. Having done a significant amount of vandalism patrol I have still only blocked one solitary vandal. The great majority of addresses which send out a vandal edit do so only once. Those who do it more often usually stop after a warning or two. Only rarely is a block actually needed and in those cases someone usually beats me to it.
As a side note I haven't retired from writing articles either. I'm still hoping to bring Freyr up to featured status but even though I've already performed more edits on it than on Hrafnkels saga back in the day, a lot of work remains to be done. Community expectations for featured articles have gone up and so have my own ambitions. I'm currently waiting for a couple of books I ordered to arrive and then I may be able to make the final push.
I'm trying my best to live up to the trust you showed in me by supporting my RFA. If ever you feel uncertain whether I'm using the admin tools in the best interests of the project, let me know. I am at any time willing to relinquish the mop and reapply for it to address concerns people have and ensure that I'm not using the admin tools without being trusted to do so. Hi Bhadani. I generally consider Deeptrivia to be a good editor with a lot of energy. And I personally feel that a little bad karma in one's early days shouldn't come in the way of one's adminship. Gurubrahma's expectations seem to more realistic and appropriate for an admin. Let me look into it on Monday. By the way, believe it or not, I have even more bad karma than him. Hello Tony,
User:Mel Etitis and you spotted me on wikipedia. You also encouraged me by awarding me an exceptional new comer barnstar. Now after about one year of my association with the Project, I have found several nice editors: one of them is
deeptrivia and I wish him to nominate or co-nominate for adminship with some other editor/s who are familiar with him and his works. However, Deep (a
Sanskrit word meaning “light” or one who gives light) is thinking of a particular
dark moment of his life as a wikipedian. I seek your advice and comments on the issue. Is not he fit for the admin responsibility? Is the burden of one block has washed out all his contributions to the project? Kindly give your suggestions on my talk page. Thanks.
Tony's response:
Look at this:
People do redeem themselves from dark moments, with good will and hard work. I wish your friend well and I know that with your help he will do good work for Wikipedia.

I thank all the participants, and I do believe this settles this issue. However, I shall wait for few more weeks as desired by Deep. -- Bhadani 07:22, 19 February 2006 (UTC)

Most references limit Sakastan to Sistan province of Iran. The term looks like a neologism anyway. That Rajputs were "accepted in Hinduism" in return of their support of "Hindu" "crusades" against Buddhism is a pure fantasy. Never heard of such armed conflicts. deeptrivia ( talk) 17:52, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

Bhadani, can you please cleanup the Sakastan page and rewrite only relevent and reliable sources. I just don't want this controversy to go on and create any bad feelings. I only knew that Sakastan extended from Afghanistan to western Uttar Pradesh, with twin capials at Peshawar and Mathura, ruled and settled by Sakas, Kushan, Indo-Greeks, etc. They later were accepted into Hinduism as Rajputs. I am not a expert on this issue and I only this from reading info on Internet. I had no agenda or hidden motive. So please you take it over and rewrite it so that it does not raise any controversy.

Thanks for your notes re my edit to the Bihar article ... as you spotted I of course know next to nothing about Bihar (or I did before I read the article) ... and I only found it because of that phrase "is one of the leading" which is often - but of course not always - a marker of POV. I still find it hard to accept that we can say College X, followed by College Y ... is the ranking really so indisputably established. It just doesn't feel NPOV to me. Dear Bhadani,
I will be free after March 30th so I would love to take you up on the offer of working and guiding me through the completion of the Gurkha article.
There is some new chap (with no profile, only a name) who has begun editing the history section with his opinion based on a single book (a single source does not make a good solid base).
I don't think he understands that I not only come from the family in question but have also studied my family history in University. Also the book he is using is highly inaccurrate in its discussion of who the Gurkhas are.
I would highly appreciate it if you could keep an eye on the article as well, until I finish my exams on March 30th.
Sincerely,

Hi,
I seem to be in an interesting discussion with another user. He feels that Red Links (links to articles that don't exist) should be removed because it frustrates readers. On the other hand, I maintain that Red Links are an indication that the author feels that the article in question is important and a red link serves as an indication, encouraging users to expand them into articles. Please clarify as an admin on it as to what does official Wikipedia Policy says on it.
Also, earlier in the day, I nominated an article called Gance for deletion (AfD) as non-notable organization. The person who wrote the article seems to have got hurt and he/she has removed the AfD label saying that it is a well known organization. I feel you will be better to handle this issue as the user might have something against me and personally and I feel that a third party should address it. The reason why I nominated is that I was not able to isolate its reference in Google as it is a very common word, morover the tone suggested that it was a vanity article (refer to the version just before I tagged it). I may be wrong, but that's all the AfD discussion is for. The article has been improved a bit since then, but there will be inconsistancy as the AfD label is no longer there. - Ambuj Saxena ( talk) 14:46, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
I've noticed that instead of using the normal templates, you've simply been telling users "Please do something constructive here". You really should consider using a template such as {{subst:test1}} instead, so it is more specific to the user's actions, and removes any considerable doubt about what you actually meant. Thanks. - Mulder416 15:58, 27 February 2006 (UTC)
