Hello Basilicofresco,
I would like you to help me expand the Somaliland Armed Forces page [ [1]]. The page seems very narrowed--containing small amount of information. In Somaliland, there are many different divisions of the army. For example, they have the Police, and then they have the Special Police Unit, aka [SPU], and then they have the Resistance Unit, aka [RRU], working as a division of the SPU. In terms of the other divisions, they have the Custodial Corps, the Military, and the Navy. And each one of them has smaller divisions. If we could start doing that, I think we can make the page more wider--contain more information.
I am looking forward to work with you.
Thank you very much for your time,

Hi, I undid an edit your frescobot did on the Cousin page a couple months ago. The edit in question turned a link in the "external links" section into a great big graphic.
Was that a bot mistake or was there something wrong with the original post that needs to be fixed? The note on the change cited 'syntax' for the reason. The page is pretty 'graphics heavy' already so the last thing it needs is another graphic, but it's a decent link.
If there was a problem with the syntax, is there a way to fix it while leaving it as a link rather than a big fat picture in the external links section?
Cheers

Thanks for visiting my entry on family support; however, the Arc-US was a subcontractor of mine on the national research Center which had a project (first in the nation) to study community integration statewide; I also was US technical lead. In addition, in that particular state study, the Arc was not the family support lead in the state of New Hampshire, and neither was the other family group cited by your revision (yes, surprising to me; so please remove from the journal article by the professor). The Arc, by the way, has family support services, primarily respite, from back in the 1950s (and I have cited elsewhere in the article; they did not predate this author's professional family support in New York either). Very early community integration groups are the Arc, a bit on the maternal/paternal side. JARacino ( talk)JARacino JARacino ( talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:18, 30 June 2014 (UTC)

This edit [14] made a mistaken correction. I suppose you are trying to add forgotten spaces after the article 'a' before a link. However in this case 'a' or 'A' is not an article, but a music note. There is not supposed to be a space in A♯. − Woodstone ( talk) 08:02, 19 January 2015 (UTC)

Greetings. Bots can be so useful but I do find it that long diffs such as [15] waste a lot of time and no small amount of my patience. If this extra long diff file was caused by the attacking of spaces then you have to find a better way of indicating that in the diff. I personally prefer a few extra spaces in the edit window in order to enhance readability without affecting the article page. I would be happier if they weren't removed: only gross spaces should be attacked. Peter Mercator ( talk) 14:14, 12 February 2015 (UTC)

In [16], "all-cis" and "syn" are not two separate adjectives for the following noun, but instead are part of systematic nomenclature, where spaces are not used between comma-separated stereochemical details. In particular, I'm following the examples in ladderane, and the "all-" actually distributes over both "cis" and "syn" in this case. Hey, undoubtedly this would be a rare occurrence, but FrescoBot made what seems a mildly harmful edit here. The bot removed all of the useful information from a reference, and left only the wikilink in its place. Of course, wiki shouldn't be used as a reference, but in this case, the other parameters of the cite template contained enough info for me to find the proper url, and fix the ref; only the original url was improper. I don't think it ideal to remove the meat of the ref, and leave only a wikilink, which shouldn't be there in the first place. Any way to prevent the bot from working with ref tags? Antepenultimate ( talk) 00:46, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
I guess the thing that I keep coming back to is that, even when this bot is executing this task in the 'normal' way ( for example), we still wind up with a statement that uses Wikipedia as a reference, which we all agree is wrong. It's just wrong in a simpler way now, and my original diff shows that occasionally information that would be useful for verification is removed. Even in my example diff above, and in Dsimic's diff, an access date is removed, which could be useful in locating an older version of the cited page that contains a true reference (a long shot, but possible).
More simply put, what exactly is the benefit that is gained from this automated task? I don't really see a clear improvement being made by removing the remainder of the citation template (it's a bad ref before, and still a bad ref after), so even if the harmful edits are rare, that's a problem. It would be better, I think, to leave the citations alone (or maybe only convert the external link to a wikilink), and tag them with an template, so that attention is called to the problem, without deleting the information that could be used to solve the problem. (As far as I can tell, there is no template to specifically point out cases where Wikipedia is used as a reference, but my search is undoubtedly incomplete. 'Unreliable source' is the truth, however, it's part of the reason such references aren't allowed.)
Not trying to disparage your hard work in creating and maintaining this bot. I'm always impressed with the amount of work that has been automated around here, and the vast majority of the work done by FrescoBot is great! Antepenultimate ( talk) 22:03, 13 August 2015 (UTC)
Citation needed
next to them? That way, we'd have no disallowed sources around, and when someone checks why the Citation needed
is there, they will be able to see the commented-out stuff and potentially do something with it. Just as a thought. —
Dsimic (

contribs) 22:42, 13 August 2015 (UTC)I paused this script. The idea to call attention to the problem using Citation needed
or Unreliable source
sounds good. The reason why I was removing the cite web wrap was to expose the problem, but your suggestion seems more effective. Let's find out the best solution in detail.
Original reference:

Solution1: just adds Unreliable source

Solution2: adds Unreliable source and converts the external link in internal link ("url" parameter cannot accept a wikilink, so uses "quote")

Solution3: comments out the original reference and adds Citation needed
<!---->
I will apply one of the above solutions + url conversion as well to:

Personally I prefer Solution1 because actually the problem is the unreliable source. I believe cn is more suitable for all quotations and any material challenged or likely to be challenged and here the bot cannot verify if after commenting out the bad reference a citation is actually needed. Moreover other sources may be present and cn may be inappropriate. Does Solution1 sound good? -- Basilicofresco ( msg) 07:18, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Better source
instead of Unreliable source
. The source is certainly inappropriate, and what we need is to draw attention to the need for a better source. —

I have reverted an edit that your bot made here to Battle of Worcester but I see that your bot has been making similar changes to other pages.
The reason why changing is because these two are visually different and the former is a deliberate choice:
Worcester cathedral's
Worcester cathedral'sWorcester cathedral's
Worcester cathedral'sThis is different from a plural where the s also appears in blue so that there is no visual difference
If you agree that these Worcester cathedral's and Worcester cathedral's examples are different then I expect you to run you bot and revert the changes it has made to articles. -- PBS ( talk) 07:13, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Worcester cathedral's
could be considered deliberate. I just considered it a typo because saxon genitive clearly does not belong to the subject name and there is no reason to include it in the link. For the very same reason for example I was fixing as well:
cathedral of --> cathedral of
cathedral. --> cathedral.
cathedral, --> cathedral,
"cathedral" --> "cathedral"
Basilicofresco should I unblock so that you continue the other fixes? Just skip this rule the other rules are fine. -- Magioladitis ( talk) 07:54, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
@ Basilicofresco and PBS: Done. The block was used to just stop the bot. Basilicofresco, there is trust that you won't do that particular change till the issue is resolved. Thanks, Magioladitis ( talk) 08:47, 14 August 2015 (UTC)

I also want to note that the agreed changes did not affect the visual output. And all additions I proposed to the bot tasks after the BRFA were in the same spirit. This change we discuss here changes the visual output so PBs was correct to stop the bot. -- Magioladitis ( talk) 09:28, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
@ Basilicofresco and PBS: My opinion: I see no reason to be hasty here. Let's ask to get some opinions. This is a medium scale change. Reverting back and forth won't help. We ask, we get consensus, we run the bots and we are done. After we get consensus the bot will require a few hours.
I support PBS version but I support Basilicofresco's approach of how we deal with this problem. Just be more careful in the future when introducing new changes that can be controversial. The experience shows that every change in the visual output (and sometimes not even that) can be controversial. -- Magioladitis ( talk) 09:47, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Ofcourse, PBS and any other is allowed to revert to the previous version. I am discussing the bot run here. I do know even have a clue of how many pages where affected. The first edit I noticed in this direction was yesterday and I would have not noticed it affects the visual output till PBS acted. -- Magioladitis ( talk) 09:49, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
Basilicofresco do you have an estimate of the pages affected? -- Magioladitis ( talk) 10:41, 14 August 2015 (UTC)
@ Basilicofresco and PBS: I think the best solution is to change all' wikilinks with "'s" to foo's]. I'll ask MW guys why there is this inconsistency in stickylinks. -- Magioladitis ( talk) 15:16, 18 August 2015 (UTC)
foo's]
that is no reason to force it on others. All that matters is that articles are consistent, there does not have to be consistency across articles over something like this. Basilicofresco should simply revert the bot's edits for the pages that the bot changed from 's]]
, ]]'s
. It should have been done days ago as soon as it was raised. If Basilicofresco's bot can not revert its edits then we need to have another discussion. --

Do not use articles from Wikipedia as sources.. It gives only one exception. WP:CIRCULAR is a step above MOS.

This template is used in articles to identify sentences or short passages which have an inline citation but reference insufficient sources." Note that 'insufficient sources' is linked to WP:NOTRS... and that WP:CIRCULAR is a sub-section of WP:NOTRS. In other words, this is exactly the sort of situation this tag was designed for. Anyone seeing these references pointed out by the bot's edit (it's not like the bot is inserting them) is welcome to remove them if they think that is the best course of action. I am not sure how to do it and read this page: /info/en/?search=Help:Category It is a bit complex for me. I actually often edit by following the example of a prior edit! I could add in the categories I mentioned above fairly easily - but: do I add the artist's page to the Category page first - or do I add the Category page to the artist's page first? It looks like there’s a glitch in FrescoBot when cleaning up some links for author–date references; it converts citations such as “Adams (1981, 39)” to “Adams (1981), 39)” (see Exposure value#Setting EV on a camera for this example). The code for the link is
Adams (1981, 39)
The link may look a bit weird, but the link is to the entire book rather than just the page number, so it must be as it is. And in any event, the link doesn’t look nearly as weird as “Adams (1981), 39)”.

The automatic changes made to the Felidae article by the Frescobot on Dec 24 introduced some errors. It added some spaces to a Newick string used to create the cladogram. The Newick string is parsed by the new clade template (cladeN is the test version) and spaces are conventionally forbidden in Newick strings. While I can fix the changes I'm concerned the Frescobot is going to redo them. I think it would be better not to change template parameters automatically, but I'll see if I can change the Lua module so the parser is more forgiving. Jts1882 ( talk) 16:10, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
In this edit https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Dicarboxylic_acid&curid=2176730&diff=758983514&oldid=734841686 the bot seems to be only making cosmetic only changes to the Wikitext, removing extra space, and capitalizing links. Hi Basilicofresco. Your bot singled a double space before the stub tag on the Perales Airport page. I don't have any documentation on it, but it is the custom on at least the airport pages to double space before placing the stub tag at the very bottom of the edit window to separate the tag from the article. If you can fix the bot to leave those alone, it would be appreciated. Thanks Cptmrmcmillan ( talk) 07:07, 27 February 2017 (UTC)

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, The Sherminator. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Chris Owen. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Chris Owen. If you have new information to add, you might want to discuss it at the article's talk page.
If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. -- Aunva6 talk - contribs 02:02, 4 May 2017 (UTC)
Hi, just dropping a line because of a recurrent problem in a series of articles I've been writing and editing (but this probably applies across Wikipedia). The main articles of categories are normally sorted as a space, per Wikipedia:Categorization#Sort keys, No. 2:
The main article/s of a category, if existent, should get sorted with a space as key so that it/they appear at the very top of the category. Example: Those articles are typically homonymous or at least synonymous to their category. Furthermore other general articles that are highly relevant to the category should be sorted with an asterisk as key so that they also appear at the top of a category but beneath the main article/s. Example: Those articles are typically called "History of example", "Types of example", "List of example" or similar.
However, FrescoBot is replacing the space with the name of the page being sorted. So twice in the last day, Autronia (gens), which should be sorted at the top of the category , has been automatically changed to . I admit to having been confused myself at an earlier stage about how to sort Roman gentes within their categories, but on further investigation and consideration, there's no doubt that they should be sorted at the top, before any other entries in the category. This is the third time I've had to revert the change on this particular page, and I've had to do it before with other gentes (I've never asked a bot manager for help before). Since a great many categories are designed to work this way, I'm sure that an exception is warranted. Hope you can do something to help! P Aculeius ( talk) 02:30, 26 May 2017 (UTC)

Hello,
I saw your edit to the article "khubz". The article is vague, it is not clear what kind of bread it is talking about. If it is talking about Pita bread (Arabic bread) then there's another good article about it. If it means the thin bread then it should have another name. Khobz is just bread in Arabic. For example, in Lebanon it is called Khubz Marquq, or Khubz Sokhn.

Hi I notice that one of my sources for the Production section of The Bay was tagged by Frescobot stating, "Better Source Needed". The source in question was a Yahoo Movies interview with Barry Levinson, himself. Once I saw this edit I immediately went to the Reliable sources noticeboard and searched for "Yahoo" and "Yahoo Movies" and it did not turn up any significant issues. I'm wondering if this is a case of your bot getting something wrong or if there's just something I'm missing. -- Deathawk ( talk) 03:29, 20 July 2017 (UTC)

Hi. In this edit , FrescoBot has removed all the alt text from images within a gallery. alt= is a valid parameter, so I'm not sure why it did that. Could you take a look? MichaelMaggs ( talk) 12:18, 19 August 2017 (UTC)
Can you explain Special:Diff/796762436, please? In it, FrescoBot justified the removal of an image gallery by the edit summary "Bot: galleries with nonexistent images". However, as far as I can tell, all of the images in that gallery exist. — David Eppstein ( talk) 23:05, 22 August 2017 (UTC)
Interesting puzzle for you... your bot identified an empty gallery from tags that had no images between them, but took out a chunk of text that should have stayed. No idea how you would deal with that.

Could you take a look at this edit? [25] Agreed the text was messed up before but I don't think you've improved it at all. There were several places where there were two non-breaking spaces (one the actual character and the other an html escape). These have been replaced with one normal space followed by one non-breaking space, and that does not seem right. Also I'm not convinced that changing vars to vars is an improvement. Kendall-K1 ( talk) 23:16, 29 October 2017 (UTC)
Ok but what happened here? [26] It looks like narrow no-break space (U+202F) got replaced by a regular space. That doesn't seem right. Kendall-K1 ( talk) 01:13, 30 October 2017 (UTC)
Hi. Can you please stop Frescobot visiting the above page and inserting spaces where none have ever been needed in the history of the page or its many similar predecessors? The formatting as it is will do nicely, as per our long-standing consensus on this point. Thanks. Ref (chew) (do) 20:16, 31 October 2017 (UTC)
See above #Blocked Bot for 12 hours for changing a style issue in articles., this edit makes style changes. If a bullet point list has a space between the leading "*" and the next character in every case or does not have a space between leading "*" and the next character in every case, then making changes is a change in style. Don't do it ( WP:STYLEVAR). Will you change your bot to remove this change in style? -- PBS ( talk) 17:36, 1 November 2017 (UTC)
(1) Why are you testing things in the wild (Why not do it in sandboxes)? (2) Given the restrictions on style changes what made you think this was an appropriate change to make? (3) Will you go through those articles you used to "test" this change and revert them? -- PBS ( talk) 20:26, 1 November 2017 (UTC)

Hello,
What your bot have been made for article Pentaglot Dictionary ( https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Pentaglot_Dictionary&diff=807873999&oldid=801065134 ) made a mistake. Your bot replaced NNBSP (U+202F) within Mongolian and Manchu texts, however this space usually used to connect a suffix, and change the form of the letters following them as they should, replacing it will cause wrong display for Manchu/Mongolian texts. So please add an exception to make your bot not replacing NNBSP within Manchu/Mongolian texts, and revert such changes. -- Great Brightstar ( talk) 16:10, 3 November 2017 (UTC)

There is a self contradiction in the history of establishment of this railway station. Prior to independence, there were hundreds of princely states but out of that only Mumbai Thane started first railway then in West Bengal after that. In Gujrat, the first line laid was of meter guage and not narrowguage while first railway was only narrowguage. The meter guage railway only started just few years prior and after independence but Vadnagar dont have any history of having narrow guage railway line. Hello
I have been doing research on the Archer family of Medical Hall in Churchville, MD for a work of fiction I am writing.
I wanted to inform you that the information given at the bottom of the page regarding the ownership of Shamrock Farm in Bel Air is in fact incorrect.
The information I am about to relate was obtained from my land record research and verified by the Harford County Historical Society, who were so kind as to pull the original Deed for me.
The 65 acres farm was purchased in 1850 by a descendant of John Archer, BM, one Henry Wilson Archer and his wife, Mary Elizabeth Archer nee Walker. Mr Henry Archer purchased the property from Ellen Howe Davis.
It is too bad as the Shamrock estate would have provided a very plausible addition to my story line.

Hi:
Polymer clay manufacturers in the US removed thalates from polymer clay several years ago. California passed a law outlawing thalates and Fimo, Sculpey, Kato, Cernit are all thalate free now. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.205.244.127 ( talk) 19:08, 11 March 2018 (UTC)
Hi, in the article on Richard Pampuri the year of exhumation 1851 should be changed to 1951. Regards Ash — Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.223.176.250 ( talk) 05:26, 12 March 2018 (UTC)
1200 Iraqi soldiers died in the ground fight for Mosul alone. Iraqis lead this coalition and tell the air force where to strike. But US propaganda dictates that Americans are conquerors, so we cover up the truth. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:40B:8402:FD6C:75FC:A296:F59A:8786 ( talk) 02:31, 16 March 2018 (UTC)
Hello Basilicofresco,
I hope and pray that you are doing good.
I kindly have a question. What do you think leads to the deletion of my Wikipedia page even when the information in it is always original and not copied from anywhere ?
What advise would you give me ?
I will appreciate my dear.

I happened to be reading an article on "Naval History and Heritage Command" on Slapton Sands. In the article it mentions Beverly Byron as being a great help in recognizing service men killed in the incident. I thought it might make a good addition, as its not on her Maryland Women Hall of Fame bio either.

Hi, Basilicofresco. The tool that is being used on books by WikiCleaners and Bots should not be used. Please click onto Help:Books/for experts#Saving books, then scroll on down to Allowed syntax, where further on down you will come to Formatting an article title, which reads "You can use a pipe to add formatting to a title." This is the reason that the tool should not be used, as it eliminates formatting altogether. Thanks! Best, -- Discographer ( talk) 02:46, 25 March 2018 (UTC)

why
remove the 5 Hilantagaan Island seen from the Santa Fe–Hagnaya ferry (S)
? I understand putting the alt before the caption, but remove the caption seems excessive.

Hi Basilicofresco. How do you detect articles with such errors? I intend to have them fixed over in de.wikipedia. -- Leyo 09:12, 10 April 2018 (UTC)
In the List of Fandom Nicknames wikipedia page, it lists “blurry faces” as a name for twenty one pilots fans. As someone who’s been in the clique since before they got signed, I can assure you were not called “blurry faces”. In fact, it bothers most of us. Can this be fixed? We’re the Skeleton Clique. Clique for short. Nothing else. For individual members it’s “Josh’s Lane” or “Tyler’s Lane”. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.97.0.46 ( talk) 03:56, 15 April 2018 (UTC)
An editor has asked for a discussion to address the redirect Ding (Ding). Since you had some involvement with the Ding (Ding) redirect, you might want to participate in the redirect discussion if you have not already done so. – LaundryPizza03 ( d c̄) 12:01, 18 May 2018 (UTC)
Hi Basilicofresco, Could you or your bot stop changing the Events, Births and Deaths section headers in WP:DOY (for instance regarding August 22 [ this change]. It interferes with my automated scripts, causing errors. Thank you/grazie. Mill 1 ( talk) 23:04, 26 May 2018 (UTC)

In a number of recent edits, FrescoBot broke wikidata queries meant to show overlays on maps. I have fixed two, thinking they were human errors, before I discovered the pattern. I will go ahead and revert the other ones in order to fix the maps. It would be great if the bot could be updated to avoid doing it again. Thanks! Stephanecbisson ( talk) 18:16, 5 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks a lot for correcting all these links! I wasn't aware of the special syntax for such links. But it won't happen again. Promise! :-)

Hi, I know this is 2 years old and far from a big deal, but in
this edit by your bot, the string %7E
, which was intended to display as such, was inadvertently converted to ~
, rendering the sentence making little sense. I wonder if the bot has made similar inappropriate changes and if it could make the same kind of error now. You may want to look into it if you have time. Thanks.

Greetings, I added a better reference for the very last reference on this page: /info/en/?search=William_Oke as indicated by a note someone inserted. Can I remove that inserted note, or is this something you can do? Your help is appreciated as I am not very familiar with the technical aspects of constructing/editing pages. Hello, Basilicofresco. Voting in the 2018 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23.59 on Sunday, 3 December. All users who registered an account before Sunday, 28 October 2018, made at least 150 mainspace edits before Thursday, 1 November 2018 and are not currently blocked are eligible to vote.
