Hi, AzaToth! I noticed you added {{ unmaintained}} to WP:CVU again. If you could be a bit more detailed about the "outdated and inconsistent information on this page" that you mentioned in your edit summary, it would be quite helpful. I was wondering if you could tell me how twinklespeedy.js retrieves the name of the first contributer to a page. I looked at the source code for it but because I don't really know anything about XML I couldn't figure out how it works. I would appreciate whatever hints you could give me.-- Dycedarg ж 00:45, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Template:Db-autobio is just about to be deleted through this TfD and is deprecated in favor of db-bio. This script of yours is fairly widely used and gives an option for using db-autobio. I would update it myself except it is fully protected. Please update this script at your earliest convenience or else your users will end up inserting redlinks instead of CSD tags. — Dgies t c 07:17, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Is there a way to make it so that if your going through a vandal's contributions page and reverting them all, the revert action automatically opens up in new tabs instead of having to right click each of the revert buttons? Also, why when Twinkle is set to open user talk's in new window, it opens it in a second window if a second one is already open. (ex. you revert two things of vandalism right after each other, but when you go to warn both user's after, only the first page shows in the new window because the first page is located in the back button of the browser. -- TeckWiz Parlate Contribs @ 17:50, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
Much of the information on WP:CVU is actually transcluded from Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism/Tools (which is also transcluded into WP:CUV). Consequently, the edit history of WP:CVU itself does not reflect the many updates that have been made to the tool list. If the information on the IRC channels -- which is from Wikipedia:Cleaning up vandalism/Tools -- misattributes the owner of these channels, you are welcome to correct it. As to whether the CVU still exists, I can confirm that it does, primarily due to the efforts of PseudoSudo and myself to defeat Bobby Boulders' plot to destroy the CVU by nominating it for deletion using Dr Chatterjee as a sockpuppet -- see Wikipedia:Requests for checkuser/Case/Dr Chatterjee, Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit (second nomination), and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Counter-Vandalism Unit (third nomination). As a result of my extensive arguments against the deletion of the CVU, I now have the distinction of being the only user whose talk page is currently being targeted by Bobby Boulders for vandalism -- see Special:Contributions/Mister_Sunshine, for example. I noticed the other day that you added the Werdnabot index code to the template specified in the instructions here, and was wondering if that might be something better suited in a separate template that's documented in the Werdnabot Howto, rather than just being included by default whenever anyone requests Werdnabot's services. It seems that the feature has existed for a while (in some form or another), but I hadn't heard of it until somewhat recently, and it seems like having it on by default (and not really documented at all, as far as I can see) could cause problems if people want to use HBC Archive Indexerbot to index their archives - both bots might be trying to update the same page, if the user doesn't realize that Werdnabot is updating that page. I hope this doesn't come across as "bot envy" or "my bot's way is better", because there's certainly room for both bots to serve similar purposes, I'm just hoping to avoid confusion on both ends of the equation. I'd be interested to hear what you think on the issue when you have a chance. Thanks! — Krellis ( Talk) 05:53, 10 March 2007 (UTC)

I've implemented your suggestion for dates of first/last comment in a topic for the HBC Archive Indexerbot, and you can see it in action in my archive index. The next item I plan to tackle from my TODO list is your other comment regarding the inability to handle month-named archives. At least initially, I think it will be an option that will cause the bot to simply search the links in the requesting page for links to subpages with "Archive" in the name, and index them. Trying to guess different month formats seems like it would not work very effectively, so that is the best solution I have come up with so far. Please feel free to let me know if you have any further comments or suggestions about the bot (I'll be watching this space for replies, or you can always get my attention on my talk). — Krellis ( Talk) 17:03, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Hello, AzaToth! Thank you for reverting vandalism to Wikipedia, as you did in Life. After you revert, I would recommend also warning the users whose edits you revert on their talk pages with an appropriate template or custom message. This will serve to direct new users towards the sandbox, educate them about Wikipedia, and a stern warning to a vandal may prevent him or her from vandalizing again. Thanks! zero » 00:21, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
Hello, AzaToth, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for inventing conditional templates and providing the most advanced anti-vandal script yet. After you do so, I would recommend also warning everyone you know that you are imminently about to become an administrator and they should watch their backs, with an appropriate template or custom message. Hi Carl,
I'm hoping this is something straightforward (i.e. something obvious I'm overlooking), but I don't seem able to set the width of the first column in this infobox (the column carrying the hyphens) so that it's any narrower than at present. Your advice much appreciated. Thanks, David Kernow (talk) 17:13, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
<td> - </td>
entries; these create the hyphens at the starts of lines in the infobox (e.g. in the Government, Area, Population etc sections; see the examples at
User:David Kernow/Test page#Infobox Country or territory). I haven't worked out how to reduce the gap between each hyphen and the text following it, i.e. to reduce the width of the column in which these hyphens are placed. Since there's nothing wider than -
in this column, I'd hoped this would become the width of the column – but instead it looks about twice as wide. I've tried specifying a width (<td width="...">
) in px, ex and %, but nothing seems to change. Is there something I'm overlooking...? Yours,

Hi Azatoth, I notice you're changing templates. Hi. I noticed that you had semi protected this article, although there is no mention on the page that it is protected. I only discovered by accident, and was rather surprised. I'm not surprised that people want to add information to the page, because there has just been a new publicity release about the book. I am a little puzzled why this merits protection. The article has recently been fully protected fo a month or two supposedly because of a dispute over the 'meaning of hallows section'. I was rather bemused by this. I do not believe that there would have been outright war on the page had it not been protected at all. It seems far more likely to me that people would have engaged in their three reverts a few times and then settled down as consensus became clear. If a revert war is never allowed to run long enough for a few different people to show where they stand on an issue, then it never will be resolved. In this instance, the article was locked for a month while we argued about it, to no real conclusion, then was unlocked and settled down without the issue having been resolved. Then as a newcomer started another spat, again the issue was never given enough time to resolve itself before the page was locked. This is a high traffic article, with lots of people adding to it, but while their edits may be hasty, it is not clear they are vandalism. As often as not, someone adds something which is already present somewhere else on the page already. It may inconvenience people to keep sorting it out, but surely that is not the point? 88.108.99.56 23:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC) User: Sandpiper, I had to log out to check the page was protected, and now the auto log in is screwed.
Why have you changed the protection level of the Cheri Dinovo page? It is subject to a high rate of vandelism, that's why Bearcat reinstated the protection in the first place. Please revert the protection. Abebenjoe 00:20, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
for the purposes of covering unblockabuse and the list of links provided are overkill. Do we really need RFA/RFB? -- Netsnipe ► 05:28, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
Heya Azatoth. Why the protection change on The Freecycle Network page? I read your description above for the protection differences but in this case there still remains an unresolved AMA and ongoing unresolved dispute. I'm planning on following up on both shortly. Heeeelo. Don't mean to patronise, but the protection policy says that sprotection should not be used pre-emptively, like you did on April Fools Day. I was wondering if you'd consider unprotecting it? You never know, people might not vandalise it. -- Deskana (ya rly) 15:01, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
The point of the "graylinks" in {{ usercheck}} was that, even if the subpages titled with that username do not exist, there may be a mention or #anchor of that username on the main topic page, for instance:
I have been using {{ usercheck}} not only to help discuss proposed community bans, but also to research existing community bans that had been logged at WP:BANNED without links to the relevant discussions.
Your changes have disabled parts of {{ usercheck}} that I was using.
If you want a template with "disappearing" links, may I suggest {{ vandal-m}}, which already has them? That way you can have what you apparently want, without destroying the research tool I was using.
Making {{ usercheck}} redundant to {{ vandal-m}} only makes it a good candidate for TfD. Why have two templates that do the same thing?
Oh, and "count" was next to "contribs" because they are two ways of looking at the same thing: the user's contributions history. They were grouped by topic, not by the server on which they were located.
I would like to be able to continue cleanup on WP:BANNED. May I have back the research tool I was using to do that job? Please? I would really appreciate that. Thank you. -- Ben TALK/ HIST 17:43, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

, I'll just revert it then, and use the other template, thanks for pointing it out. →

Toth 17:47, 31 March 2007 (UTC)I'm very glad I didn't have any drink in my mouth at the time...I definitely got a good chuckle out of that. And to think, I didn't go because of my watchlist, I just happened to click on my username and noticed the great big pink padlock. It's gonna stay there for the time being. If you can think up a good caption, by all means add it. ^ demon [omg plz] 20:40, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
