Difficult to see how
this needed rollbacking, when, as an addition, it merely reflected the opening sentence of the lead...and so cannot have been disruptive in the slightest degree. FYI.

Wikidata weekly summary #342
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
We added a Page property for easier programmatic access to the number of Senses and Forms of a Lexeme (
phabricator:T199611)
The code samples in the query service have been improved (
phabricator:T207749, thanks abian!)
We're working on tracking how often the different Lua functions that Wikibase provides are used in the Wikimedia project to see how that changes over time (
phabricator:T191416)
We worked on and fixed a security incident related to blocking (
phabricator:T210953)
We are continuing to bring the termbox (showing labels, descriptions, aliases) to mobile viewers

Changes later this week
The
new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 11 December. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 12 December. It will be on all wikis from 13 December (
calendar).
Meetings
You can join the technical advice meeting on IRC. During the meeting, volunteer developers can ask for advice. The meeting will be on
12 December at 16:00 (UTC). See
how to join.
Future changes
New accounts will need passwords that are at least 8 characters long. Admins, interface admins, bureaucrats, oversighters, CentralNotice admins, global renamers, check users, stewards and some other user groups will need passwords that are at least 10 characters long. This is because an attacker could cause damage to the wikis if they took over these accounts.
[1][2]
When you hover over a footnote it will show you the reference as a pop-up. This is so you don't have to jump down to the bottom of the page to see a reference. This will happen in 2019. Some wikis already have gadgets that do this. You will be able to turn it off.
[3]
Do you need more to add a reference to this important and relevant information about possible criminal activity?

You've misunderstood and misrepresented the situation severely. The edit war was started by a different user; my edit was discussed on a talk page with someone else MONTHS ago and my version stood. The user other reverted that and refuses to stop. Furthermore, my most recent change was not a reversion. The entire page is incorrectly titled since things like incitement and threats aren't free speech (and therefore cannot be exceptions to free speech). I gave it an entirely new name and opening paragraph to match. This was all new material.
Your clueless and vandalistic reverting of my edit
(
BLP violation removed) So, you, out of the blue, and unaware who or what this guy is, deem my edit as vandalism that this fraud is only "claiming to be a victims advocate" and not a real one shows how lame wikipedia has come to be.— Preceding

Hello! Just a comment regarding
this revert at the

MeKLT, you cannot delete an account you could only log out of your account. If an account is created on Wikipedia it can never be deleted. And please stop asking questions at the teahouse about deleting an account. Also, recently you apologized on my talk page. I suggest you start editing articles.
Denim11 (
talk) 15:24, 5 December 2018 (UTC)
(
talk page watcher) It is impossible to delete an account because, from
Wikipedia:Username policy, It is not possible to delete user accounts, as all contributions must be assigned to some identifier; either a username or an
IP address. This is for licensing reasons. If you want to functionally delete your account (as in never being able to use it again) you could ask for your account to be renamed to something random and/or change your password to a random scramble of characters that you never remember. Don't be disingenuous. He never said you didn't answer his question correctly. (If you think he did, feel free to quote him.) Instead, he originally asked how to delete his account. You gave an indirect answer that was curt and unhelpful. On this page, he has asked why you were rude. He has also asked you to tell him why he can't delete his account (something others had to do for you). He was right. You were needlessly rude and you treated him poorly. You owe
MeKLT an apology.

FreeSpeechGuy: Did I answer their question? Yes. Is my answer appropriate? Yes, since you really can't do it. Am I being rude? Giving indirect answers are not rude. Is my answer unhelpful? Fuck no, at least he can stop searching for ways to delete his account. Are curt answers problematic? No, it is indeed a fact. Are you qualified to judge my actions? I'm not sure. Are
talk page stalkers answering questions instead of me makes me rude? No, not everyone goes online 24/7. Did I treat him poorly? Probably yes, up to you. Just stop posting bad-faith comments here. ―
Abelmoschus Esculentustalk /
contribs 10:54, 12 December 2018 (UTC)
No one said you didn't answer the question. By implying otherwise, you're being disingenuous. Where you say your answer was "appropriate", you're using that term in a way that is disingenuous. You're using it to mean "technically correct" rather than ethically appropriate. Since the issue here is that you were rude, you're trying to shift the goal posts by substituting a word you're intentionally using ambiguously. Yes, giving indirect answers is rude. Yes, you were unhelpful. The user asked HOW to do something. You did not answer his question. It's difficult to imagine a more succinct example of someone being unhelpful. And, no, your answer did not enable him to stop searching for answers. The fact that he felt compelled to seek further clarification proves you objectively wrong; you can't expect people to take your "yes" and "no" answers at face value if you can't/won't support them. This is particualrly true when the answers fail to be on point.
"Are curt answers problematic?" Given that a user had a problem with it, yes. You declaring otherwise doesn't change the definition of "problematic".
"Not everyone goes online 24/7." This is disingenuous once again. The point was that other people gave him an answer that you couldn't be bothered to give. The frequency of your Internet activity wasn't the issue. But if it was - you took 16 minutes to respond to him.
Amazing that you spend so much time saying you were 1) helpful, 2) appropriate, 3) not rude, and 4) not problematic with your curtness, yet you end your whole screed by admitting that you treated another user poorly. Again, you owe him an apology. And, really, you also owe me an apology for claiming I'm not posting in bad faith when it is, in fact, your entire post that is in bad faith as evidenced by your overt contradictions and disingenuous approach.
FreeSpeechGuy (
talk) 05:20, 13 December 2018 (UTC)

you took 16 minutes to respond to him. -- That's not long enough for the pizza to be free. Looking at the edit war warning on your talk page, and
the original discussion, and considering the fact that you're digging into a week old discussion just to find something to gripe about, your (FreeSpeechGuy's) posts don't really strike me as concern for OP as much as
trying to "get even", even if it's on some moral ground you're imagining.
Ian.thomson (

That was my point. Abel said he can't always be on the Internet in order to respond, but it only took him 16 minutes to actually respond (sans substance). Moreover, I have no engaged in edit warring. Abel just couldn't be bothered to read the history of the page where decided-upon changes from 6+ months ago are now being changed by others without discussion. The dude is a troll.

Admins can no longer unblock themselves, except for self-blocks. A blocked admin can block the user who blocked them but no one else. This is so no one can block all admins on a wiki without being stopped.

The
ParserMigration extension has been removed. It compared the result of two versions of the MediaWiki wikitext parsing pipeline. It was used when we moved to the
Remex parsing library instead of
Tidy.
Problems
<ref> tags can use parameters such as "name" or "group". For example <ref name="adams" group="books">. If a <ref> tag has more than two parameters all parameters are ignored. You don't get a warning that they don't work. This will soon be fixed.
