Hello, I'm
Landihan. I noticed that you recently removed content from
Bergen Community College without adequately explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an accurate
edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the removed content has been restored. If you would like to experiment, please use the

my talk page. On Wikipedia content much content is meant to illustrate the past.

Hello,
The entry to Bergen Community College is woefully outdated and provides no information, but other editors keep reverting the copy back to previous versions. We are not placing promotional copy on the page - this is all strictly fact-based. We are seeking input and assistance to prevent poor content in this page.
OK, that's all fine and good, but how can the content of this entry be updated legitimately, then? As is, the entry is useless. It provides no real information or background on the institution. We don't field many of the athletic teams listed, the enrollment is wrong, as-is the endowment and the name of the president. If I can't fix this entry as a way to convey correct information, who can? I'm really at a loss here.
How can other sources (as you said, the NYT/WSJ/etc.) have better or more factual information than the College itself? We are our own source. We publish our own data. We own the data. Can we just cite the copy from the document it came from? There is, simply, no other way to publish factual information on the College - we are not covered by the media in any significant way.
I disagree that Wikipedia does not allow content that doesn't come from media sources. For instance, on our sister colleges, much of the content is not cited from a source or, if it is from a source, it's a self-posted source (such as the college itself!): /info/en/?search=Brookdale_Community_College
I would recommend all of these pages - and many, many others - are taken down as well. Otherwise, I feel we are being discriminated against. Please advise.
With this being the case, I respectfully ask that the Bergen Community College entry be edited to include updated and correct information. I would gladly do so myself, but I am prohibited from doing so, as has been noted. Thank you.
I gave this my best shot, but the college website doesn't make it easy to cite things like enrollment and history. I used news reports where I could to supplement BCC's own publications, and also worked on the refs and the chronology in the section on the 2014 events. It's not entirely true that non-independent sources are not allowed, but no sources can be copied because of the nature of our license (your earlier contributions have been expunged from public view) and we are not an advertising medium so the style and length required are very different; and non-independent sources can't be used to establish notability (which is not the issue here) and should be used as sparingly as possible, so what I did was to pick from several of them and add news sources to corroborate what I could. As a matter of fact, I'd say the college is covered more in the local press than many I've worked on. Are the enrollment and the sports accurate now? Note what I said in my edit summary about the president line in the infobox having to remain blank for now, until a permanent appointment is made. Yngvadottir ( talk) 00:00, 2 June 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for at least updating the page so that some of the current information is featured. The entry is still woefully unfocused (as it pertains to athletics and a "free speech" issue that is ancient history at this point) and doesn't focus on anything that's central to the College's mission and history. As part of a larger project, though, we're going to try create an entry that contains sourced material going forward. Again, we do appreciate the effort.
An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/100.8.174.93, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.
