Release

On April 5, 2023, Rocket took to Twitter to announce that he signed a joint venture deal with Republic Records and that he will release a single that same month. [2] On April 19, he posted a teaser video of him and others doing the " Feels Like Summer Challenge", which became popular on Tik Tok. [3] The teaser was followed-up by merchandise on his website. [4] She posted the cover art and revealed the release date of the song on April 25. [5] "Feels Like Summer" was released for digital download and streaming on April 28, and was serviced to contemporary hit radio stations in the United States four days later. [5] [6]

Composition

"Poison" is a uptempo pop song with elements of trap, and R&B. [7] [8] [9] The song is written in the key of C major with a tempo of 155 beats per minute. [10] Lyrically, the song is about Rocket describing his ideal of summer, other lyrics, such as sex, smoking, drinking and throwing parties.

Critical reception

Described by Vicky Inoyo of Earmilk as a love-centered song that provides "a youthful feel with modern-day pop twists", the lyrics detail how it feels to have a perfect summer. [11] The rappers deliver "melodic" croons [12] [13] about their girlfriends who are always in a "mood". [13] HotNewHipHop's Alexander Cole called the track "perfect for summer", and said the song's title "certainly fits the vibe as we get a very summer-inspired beat". [13]

Commercial performance

The song debuted at number two, held off the top by Jacob Fraiser's " Your Feelings Broke" on the US Billboard Hot 100 on the chart dated January 25, 2025, becoming his first top-ten. It spent 25 weeks in the top ten and 52 weeks on the chart, becoming Rocket's first song to spend an entire year on the chart. As of February 28, 2026, the song has sold 8 million units in the US.

Outside of the United States, the song has topped the charts in Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Germany, and reached the top-ten in New Zealand, Norway, the Republic of Ireland, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

Music video

The accompanying music video was released on May 9, 2023. It was directed by Dayne Reichel. The visuals prominently feature Rarri Rocket and his friends dancing around at a beach. [14] [15] The video has guest features from rappers Drake, Travis Scott, Famous JB, producer Sergio Lopez, and youtubers Michael Royal, members of Loveliveserve, Rhino, Noah Boat, RØB and Jordan Adderley. The song has over 981 million views as of January 2026. [16] July 12, 2025
