About me

Hello. I am a native English speaker and live in western Europe. I like to travel and snowboard. My interests include geopolitics, philosophy, history, language, military, geography, earth science, physics, technology and fitness.

Why do I edit Wikipedia? Like many, for the greater good. The content of this website influences billions of people, and as such it is a powerful tool to both inform and misinform. Information has the potential to change perceptions and ultimately shape the world as we know it. For this reason, I'd like it to be accurate, and believe it is a good cause in helping make it so. It's also been a useful resource to my studies which I have benefited from and so would like to give back to. And lastly, at times, it can help me to de‑stress.

My edits mainly consist of copy editing and formatting improvements. I also create and improve maps. I edit intermittently and as such may not respond swiftly to queries. I aim to edit with a neutral point of view and uphold consensus above all else.

Current projects

  • Creating a European green-grey globe map scheme, as well as improving quality and conformity between various maps used for European countries / entities (see progress at User:Rob984/Locator maps of countries in Europe)
  • Go through SVG uploads, clean-up code, and fix validation errors
  • Categorise (or nominate for speedy deletion) redirects I've created ( mainspace page creations)

HTML

Note: HTML character codes can be useful for getting around wikitext parsing in a pinch, however particularly in the mainspace "helpful" bots will often convert them to their raw form. Template forms get around this and are easier for other editors to read.

&#32; / &#x20; Regular space (prefer {{sp}} for readability)

&nbsp; / &#160; / &#xa0; Non-breaking space (&nbsp; is OK, also {{nbsp}} and {{spaces}} for readability)

&#8239; / &#x202f; Narrow non-breaking space (prefer {{nnbsp}} for readability)

&#8203; / &#x200b; Zero-width space (similar use as <wbr/> but with IE compatibility. Can be replaced by universally compatible {{wbr}} in most cases, or otherwise {{zwsp}} for solely readability)

&#8288; / &#x2060; Zero-width non-breaking space / word joiner (prefer {{wj}} for readability)

&#45; / &#x2d;Regular hyphen

&#8209; / &#x2011; Non-breaking hyphen (prefer {{nbhyph}} for readability)

<wbr/> Optional word break (used to allow line breaks, not supported in IE. Should be replaced by universally compatible {{wbr}})

<br/> Forced line break (for use mid-sentence, not to list items)

&amp; / &#38; / &#x26; Ampersand

&lt; / &#60; / &#x3c; Less-than sign

&gt; / &#62; / &#x3e; Greater-than sign

&#123; / &#x7B; Left curly brace

&#125; / &#x7D; Right curly brace

&#124; / &#x7C; Vertical bar

You can use the search query insource:/"[entity]"/i to find for cases of these being used across Wikipedia, for example insource:/"&#8203;"/i.
