It is a bit nordic - but my mothers name is Margit. I adore that name - in England or America, it could be Margith :D. Best wishes!
While a bit exotic in the States, i love
Ariadne ;)

Elizabeth then when you are being nice you can call her "Liz", "Libby" or "Beth" when she's good but when you need to tell her off you can use the full "Elizabeth" - she'll really know she's in the wrong.
SenorKristobbal 19:52, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
MaryElizabeth works too, with Mary Beth as the short form, with SenorKristobbal's comments applying equally.--
J Clear 03:36, 24 August 2006 (UTC)
Seconded. "Lizzie" is a cool name :-) --

All those sound good to me :) I got 'Woqivujuz', I think someone has used that in a game of scrabble against me!

Yes, name her Nazis. --

Here's a name I'd been saving for a number of years:
Kayleigh (after the song which is wikilinked), except that when my daughter was born, it ended up being in the top 100 most popular (as "Kaylee"), which then took it off my list. Then there's always my second daughter's name, which I love:
Mia. howcheng {
chat} 16:02, 28 August 2006 (UTC)
I know a girl called Mia short for
Amelia, and I know another Amelia called Millie for short. I like being
Amanda pretty well ;), and my sister is
Rosie (short for Roseanne, but could be short for any number of things). Having a name with a short and a long form is always good. (To go against what I just said, I also really like
Anne.) --
Galaxiaad 22:51, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
I think
Jade is a gorgeous name, but it's getting a little common these days.
Rosalind is pretty, too. And I quite like
my name :) [am I allowed to say that? I didn't name myself, after all... :p] — riana_dzastawreak havoc|damage report 07:10, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
Isabelle (or the English spelling "Isabel"),
Sophia (Greek for wisdom),
Josephine, and
Tessa are a names that I've always been partial to. One thing I would never use is
Cassandra (I'm Greek Mythology superstitious). For something significantly more exotic I also like
Nani, which is
Hawaiian for "beautiful". By the way, I don't really want the prize, I just like fun stuff like this.--
Pharaoh Hound(talk) 13:32, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
Sable (ok, I confess, it's my name: I hated it when I was younger because it was short but now I love it),
Janet,
Anastasia (the Romanov princess, or the Disney character, or just because it's gorgeous), or
Veronica (the Biblical woman who wiped
Jesus' face as He walked to His crucifixion).
Srose(talk) 13:39, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
I like unusual names, such as
mine. I'll start the bidding off with
Cara, and I'll probably come back.
Grandmasterka 02:49, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
The ones I suggested above are both good... But if I married a Brazilian woman I'd want to name my daughter
Caipirinha.
Grandmasterka 08:55, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
My two suggestions:
Helen, a beautiful name which evokes the epic poem, and
Julia, the name of Love. //

Best Wiki-poll ever! :) Personally, I like older names like
Charlotte and
Louisa;
Frances and
Laura are nice, too. For the middle name, I'm fond of
Viola,
Serena,
Felicia and
Joy. You and your wife also might want to wait until your daughter is born before deciding on a name for her, or even a few days after. It sometimes helps to get to know a baby before naming her; the three of you can go through a list of your favorite names and see which one "fits". Good luck and best wishes to all
Willow 10:15, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
I also like the name
Madeline. My wife and I had decided upon
Madeline Rose as the name for our child, but we ended up with a son instead. Happy baby naming!! -
sierrasurfer3 17:17, November, 5 2006 (RMT)
Dave, might I suggest my daughter's name,
Madeline. You can then shorten it to "Maddie", "Mad", or even "Maddoo", which I am prone to do. Either that, or just go with
Wiki. Good luck -- little girls are the best! --

I always wanted to have a daughter named
Chrysanthemum.
GrikaⓉ 15:59, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm biased, obviously, but there are some very pretty Welsh names; here are my favourites:
Carys /
Cerys (pron. kAHrriss, kEHrriss) - derived from caru, 'love';
Rhianydd (ree-AN-ith) - derived from rhiain, 'maiden';
Rhiannon (ree-AN-on) - a mythical Welsh character;
Eira (eye-ra) - 'snow';
Anwen - 'very fair';
Heulwen (hile-wen) - 'sunshine';
Bethan - Welsh form of Elisabeth;
Seren (sEH-ren) - 'star'; and
Megan (megg-an) - Welsh pet form of Margaret. You might want to steer clear of the first, given your surname, but hopefully some of the others will provide some inspiration. Best of luck! --
YFB¿ 19:58, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll throw my support behind Rhiannon... I always thought that it was a lovely name. Aside from that, I've always liked Desiree as well. --

Inesa - it means one who is innocent and sweet. Isn't it beautiful? I will name my child that one name, one day. :) (It might interest you: my name is Jewel.) Good luck! -

Michelle. Name of a special friend of mine. —
Moe 20:41, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Gabriela - I think that most people with this name are very sociable, honest, and brave. I love that there's so many different ways people can say this name like: Gab, Gaby, Gabby, Gabriela... It sounds so cute!!! I also think that the name of Gabriela sounds very hot! ALL the best.Bye-
Igoruha 18:33, 14 October, 2006 (UTC)
Jessica - i've always liked that name, and it can be shortened to jessie or jess, which is phonetically appealing to me. i've also known some truely amazing people named jessica in my time. i prefer the hebrew translation, the name meaning "the Lord's gift."

Tanya, or a variant of that name. Яussiaп F 00:31, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
Why not give her an Irish name that's easy to pronounce but whose spelling will strike terror into the hearts of 12 years' worth of schoolteachers, like
Meadhbh (pronounced "mave") —
Angr 07:38, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
How about modify it a little to Readhbh and pronounced "Rave"? :-P --antilivedT |

This can also be spelled

Sophia.

Anahita (an old Persian name (a Godess)),
Mitra or
Mithra (Persian mythology, the name means Sun) or
Mehregan (Persian name, it is based on the Iranian month Mehr, which means Sun. On the Mehregan day, there is celeberation very close to our thanks giving.) Good luck --

Louise or its "Anglophonized" version, Luisa. I think Louise is the original form (French), but there might other earlier versions. Louise C... doesn't sound to bad if you ask me. |

Marian - this is a very peculiar name, as it is a boy's name in Middle and Eastern Europe and a girl's name in Western Europe and the United States. --

I'm partial to
Jasmine, after coming across these small white blossoms on a hike over a decade ago. If you want it to be a bit different, the Arabic/Persian variant is
Yasmin. Also, if you're not too attached to the idea of a given middle name, you could use your wife's maiden name as the child's middle name, though I've seen this result in some terribly awkward combinations in cultures which don't do this as a matter of course. Congratulations to you and your wife! -
BanyanTree 14:29, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
I like
Molybdenum. It's a very useful element on the period table, but her grade-school teachers won't be able to ponounce it (or even know what it is). You can always call her "Moly" for short. And congratulations!
Rklawton 01:31, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
Iris is a bit old-fashioned, but obviously I love it. It'll go well with "C" as well. And I support Rklawton's suggestion as well. --

Caroline (Carrie for short) for a nice alliteration with your last name. I also like
Julia.

We were going to name ours
Liana or
Eliana (Wikipedia seems to think there is only one Eliana in the world) if it was a girl, but it turned out to be a boy.
