Florida State University's International Programs (FSU IP) are among the top 15 in the country.[1] There are seventeen destinations which host students for a variety of majors throughout the academic school year. Some programs are particular to certain majors while others offer broad curriculum studies for credit, or
internship opportunities.
History
Florida State International Programs began as a study abroad program. It was established in 1957 with the opening of its first study center and program in Panama City. By
1966, FSU IP’s second study center opened in Florence, Italy. A year later, the Panama City campus became a degree granting campus. In
1971, FSU IP's third study center opened in London, England. Twenty-one years later, in
1992 the FSU International Programs Association, Inc., was established. In
1996, the study abroad program was officially renamed to Florida State International Programs. One year after its renaming, the Spain program was established, and in
2000 the Valencia study center opened. As of
2007, FSU IP celebrated their 50th anniversary.
Destinations
FSU IP has twenty destinations. Among these destinations most have broad curriculum programs and specialized programs for certain majors.

Sydney, Australia - The Sydney, Australia program focuses on the politics and policies of the country as compared to the rest of the world. The program is not specific to a major.
Tianjin, China - The Tianjin, China program focuses on the
Chinese language and its culture. Language studies vary from beginning to advanced levels. The program is not specific to a major.
Santa Ana, Costa Rica - The program Santa Ana, Costa Rica program focuses on exploring the
Spanish language and the country’s culture. Like the Tianjin program, the Santa Ana program’s language studies vary from beginning to advanced levels. The program is not specific to a major.
Dubrovnik, Croatia - The program in Dubrovnik, Croatia focuses on understanding issues of international cooperation and conflict from the wars of the
1990s, and the expansion of
NATO and the
European Union into the Western Balkans. This program is not specific to any major.
London, England - Programs in London, England can be broad curriculum or specialized by majors. Broad curriculum programs allow IP students to take their electives and general requirements in London. Programs offered by major are Choral and Instrumental Music Education,
English Literature, and
International Affairs.
Prague, Czech Republic - The program in Prague, Czech Republic focuses on contemporary human rights and social justice issues in the context of
fascism and
communism. The program is not specific to a major.
Oxford, England - The program in Oxford, England is known as the Oxford Law Program. It focuses on
comparative law, and the history of
common law. This program is specific to law majors.
Paris, France - Programs in Paris, France are not broad curriculum. Instead, the specialized programs include Art and Culture, Dance in Paris, Global Business Seminar, Intensive French, and Dance in Paris.
Dresden, Germany - The program in Dresden, Germany focuses on the literature, language, and performing arts of contemporary Germany. It is open to all majors.
Dublin, Ireland - The program in Dublin, Ireland focuses on the history and culture of the country, and Dublin in particular. The program is open to all majors.
Cetamura, Italy (archaeological excavation site located in
Tuscany, Italy)[2] - The program in Cetamura focuses on
archaeology. The program is open to all majors despite its focus on archaeology and
anthropology.
Florence, Italy - Programs in Florence, Italy offer broad curriculum programs or a specialized major programs. Interior design and communications are the two majors with specialized programs; its broad curriculum programs focus on
Italian language and the
culture of Italy, as well as general study courses and electives. The program is open to all majors.
Chiriquí Province,
Panama - The program in Chiriquí, Panama focuses on tropical
behavioral ecology, and offers areas of study in biology, ecology, evolution, and environmental science. The program is open to all majors.
Panama City, Panama - The program in Panama City, Panama is a broad curriculum program. As such it includes general study courses and electives. The program is open to all majors.
Moscow, Russia - The program in Moscow, Russia focuses on exploring the
Russian language and the country’s culture; language courses range from beginner to advanced level. The program is open to all majors.
Valencia, Spain - Programs in Valencia, Spain focus on broad curriculum and specialized major programs. Broad curriculum programs in Valencia offer a wide array of general requirements and electives; they also offer
Spanish language courses ranging from beginner to advanced levels. The specialized major program in Valencia is for the Editing, Writing, and Media (EWM) major. The Valencia programs are open to all majors, but EWM majors take priority for the specialized EWM program.
Leysin, Switzerland - The program in Leysin, Switzerland is a specialized major program. It focuses on the
Hospitality major. The program is open to all majors, but Hospitality majors take priority for the program.
ZanzibarStone Town,
Tanzania - The program in Zanzibar Stone Town, Tanzania focuses on the
Swahili language, and the culture and heritage of Tanzania. The program is open to all majors.
Khon Kaen, Thailand - The program in Khon Kaen, Thailand focuses on small business development, and inventive thinking and technology in entrepreneurship. The program is open to all majors.
Study Centers
FSU IP has four main study centers in the cities of London, Florence, Valencia, and Panama City. These study centers serve as educational and recreational hubs for IP students.
London, England
The London study center was established in 1971. In December of 1992,
Florida State University purchased a
freehold to four connected buildings on
Great Russell Street. This refurbished complex is now the London Study Center. It is one block away from the
British Museum, in the
Bloomsbury District, and within walking distance of the
National Gallery. This study center has several programs available for students. They offer a broad curriculum program, Theater Academy, First Year Abroad program, Gateway program, special programs, internships, and Program Assistant.
Florence, Italy
The Florence study center is one of FSU IP's oldest study centers. Established in 1966, the Florence study center is located within a renovated 15th renaissance palace known as the
Palazzo degli Alessandri or the Palace Alessandri.[3] It is fifteen minutes away from the train station, making travel easy for students. This program offers a wide array of classes including, Art History, Italian, Business, Photography, and Political Science. This study center has programs including a broad curriculum program, Communications, Studies in Design, and internships.
Panama City, Panama
The Panama City study center was the first of FSU IP's study centers. Established in 1957, the Panama City study center is located in the
Ciudad del Saber (the City of Knowledge).[4] The City of Knowledge is known as international center of education and research.[5] This program offers classes ranging from Business to International Affairs. This study center also offers a broad curriculum program.
Valencia, Spain
The Valencia study center was established in 1997. It is located behind one of the city's historical landmarks the
Torres de Serranos or Serrano Towers. This center is located in the heart of old town and is walking distance from several monuments. This program offers a variety of courses including Business, Spanish, Humanities, and General Requirements. This study center offers a Broad Curriculum and an Editing, Writing, and Media program.
