Germany - Republic of Texas relations refers to the historical foreign relations between the Republic of Texas and The German Confederation. Unofficial relations began a few years after the Texas Revolution, and effectivly ended in 1846 upon the annexation of Texas by the United States.

German Texans

Desperate to escape there oppressive government, Many Germans saw Texas as a land of opportunity, Many Germans settled in central Texas, especially around Fredericksburg ^[1], The percentage of German immigrants to Texas was higher than that of any other nationality, Today German Texan is the second most common heritage of Texas behind Hispanic ^[2].

Attempted Diplomacy

Neither nation opened an embassy in each others country, however the large number of German Texans still considered Germany their homeland, Germany and The United States had moderate diplomatic ties, and since The US had an embassy in Austin, all German missions to Texas were done through the United States, and vise versa ^[3]. Germany supported The Annexation of Texas, in order to keep ties with the US. 70 years latter during World War I Germany would cut ties with the US, and attempted to convince Mexico to invade and retake Texas and other former Mexican Territories ^[4].

Trade

Texas exported cotton to most European Countries, including Germany, Germany exported Beer, Chocolate and other goods to Texas and the United States ^[5].
