The Cranes Are Flying

Hey. I noticed you moved The Cranes Are Flying to The Cranes are Flying without writing down a reason. I believe this is incorrect capitalization, as the "are" should be capitalized. It's not a conjunction or a preposition but a form of to be. See Wikipedia:Naming conventions (films). Also see IMDb and Criterion entries. Drop me a line, please. My RfA (reprise)

Well, it's been a week now that I've been an administrator and I'd like to take this moment to once again thank everyone who supported my RfA, and to let you all know that I don't think I've screwed anything up yet so I hope I'm living up to everyone's expectations for me. But if I ever fall short of those expectations, I'd certainly welcome folks telling me about it!

Atlant 14:32, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Old RfA

I was just looking over my old request for adminship, which was held back in June 2005. Of the editors voting to oppose (4) or stay neutral (3), you are the only one still active. I'm wondering if you'd be neutral about my promotion to admin if it were held today.

While editing at Wikipedia I've never once been blocked for any offense, have never been accused of wheel-warring nor of any serious misuse of administrative powers. Overall I've racked up over 40,000 edits, including many thousands of vandal reversions in articles on my over 8,500+ page watchlist. Throughout it all I think my goals have always been to maintain a quality product for this encyclopedia project, and to help other editors to do so too. Like all editors (except those bots) I'm human and am subject to error. Even so, I think I've done far more good than harm to the project.

Sixteen months and 30,000 edits later, do you think I've handled the administrative tools well? Cheers, - Will Beback 11:14, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

November Esperanza Newsletter

Program Feature: Admin Coaching (needs coaches!)
Admin Coaching needs coaches!!! If you are an administrator, or even a generally experienced user, do consider signing up to be a coach.

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

So much to do

Hello, I' am starting myself a MASSIVE, expansion project on Wikipedia, to expand all the articles about Sunderland and its county of Tyne and Wear so it will be one of the most Famous places in Tyne and Wear, I've already got one statused as a proper article and created another. I need some serious help, also, I would like other areas in what I could expand, any ideas, post this message and a reply on my talk page. "Third holiest site in Islam"

Greetings Merovingian, I'm not sure if you've been following the discussions surrounding this article but there's been now three editors (including myself and the creator of the article) who've expressed support for the title change. Have you been following the discussions? ( Netscott) 03:56, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Just to bring you up to speed, that article title stems from the title of this section of the Al-Aqsa Mosque article. Having the quotes makes the article title a bit more neutral relative to the whole politically/religiously charged issue surrounding the Temple Mount that this involves. ( Netscott) 04:05, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
To be perfectly honest with you I'd rather that the article was just deleted and any of the material that surmounts the whole "NPOV: undue weight" clause massaged into the Al-Aqsa Mosque article when possible. This talk should enlighten you a bit more about where I stand on it. Cheers. ( Netscott) 04:24, 14 November 2006 (UTC)
Indeed, ergo the neutral title for the article, "Third holiest site in Islam"... I still think that it is an undue weight piece of soapboxery (I do admit however that the article appears to be improving inasmuch as it is possible with User:Avraham's editing). From what I know of the story on the Al-Aqsa Mosque article, there appears to be some folks with some religious/political axes to grind and this article is the result of a squabble there. These editors were essentially told that the content they wanted to add was exemplary of "undue weight" there and to start an article on it... I think its still a matter of undue weight... but in the long run a consensus will likely soon be found as the article will likely soon be relisted for AfD. ( Netscott) 04:41, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

If someone flames me on there user page what can i do about it?

Hey you have helped me in the past, I was wondering if you could do so again? :) I am reporting MarinDK because of his comments on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Chicken and Rice first he accuses of "disrupting the voting process/AfD" because I am disagreeing with him, then he says what I am saying is bogus. He has been acting on bad faith. Then when I confronted him on this talk page he doesnt confront me about the issue, instead he post in AfD itself saying "Since I am now being threatened on my talk page by the above editor to shut up I will leave this to others" I believe he is trying to sway the opinions of others by using personal issue to make me look bad, is that a violation of some kind since it has nothing to do with the AfD? He later rebuttles on his page saying "go away silly person". Is there anything I can do about this? Valoem talk 11:57, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

Replied on my talk page. Did you ever read the entire debate? He is telling people what they can or cannot say on the AfD. He told people not to suggest (which I mistaked for voting, doesn't matter in the end) deletion as long as he was working on it. Most notably he has invented a new definition of reliable sources whereby he can act as the primary source himself. If that passes then a whole wave of new articles can be created without any primary sources beyond the author himself. No offence but you should also look at my talk page and see how he is using your response to make me shut up. I apologized for patronizing him, both on my talk page and on the AfD, he did nothing more than continue to tell people what they can or cannot say. One of the people he convinced to leave a "keep" suggestion on the AfD even blatantly refers to me as being on a "Power trip" on his talk page. How is that not a personal attack? I respect that you are an admin but please... look deeper into these disputes and realize that there are always two sides of a case. A candidate for Arbitration Commitee should know that wouldn't you agree? Oh and if you want to see the entire unedited version of what I reacted so sharply to look at the link provided on my talk page and on the AfD. He did not reinsert it the way he claims. I did not try to make him look bad, he did a perfectly good job at that himself by reffering to me as "still being new" and not in any way assuming good faith. How did he try to be polite to me or others on the AfD? MartinDK 07:28, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
Hey again Merovingian, I have response on his talk page to much of the issues. He has distorted the truth. Here is a the response I made on his talk page:
  • Response When I made the post to Merovingian it was before you apologize in fact it was a response to you saying "go away silly person". It was because you refused to reason with me. I made the post on Merovingian's talk page on 12:06, 14 November 2006, before you apologize. You first apologized on your talk page at 13:51, 14 November 2006 then on the discussion at 17:55, 14 November 2006. Secondly you have brought an unrelated issue to Merovingian claiming that was slandering you. The person who apperently said "you" (I dont even know if that was directed at you) were "power tripping" has nothing to do with anything I said. Other thing, I also remarked why I removed the comment which was because "it was irrelevent to the discussion" not because it was "offending" or that I was hiding something I did (when you suggested that I immediately put back the comment). Of course all this is repetition, were have already discussed this, but yet you decide not to tell the admin the reasons, just that I "changed" the comment. Finally after I have enlightened you of the matter and CLEARLY told you that have asked an admin's view on the issue you, you responded saying that you are going to drop it and lost interest in WP, however the next day you wrote back to that admin (i dont know why you would do this maybe hoping I wouldn't see? you even said "respond on my talk page") stated many things that were bias and distorted the truth. Valoem talk 18:50, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Also on an unrelated issue. Is it original research because I am suggesting that the factuality of many things in the article can be verified by simply going to Chicken and Rice for example the lines, menu, and their method of cooking. They are technically the source I am just a primary witness. I have also just added a lot more citation. Thanks for taking your time to respond to us! Valoem talk 19:02, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

Excuse me for adding this but I have just lost all idea of what is is even about and I really wish that this could just have ended with your response on my talk page this morning. I don't know why he started it again, I really don't. I made a short reply and thanks to your message on my talk page. Can you protect my talk page so only admins can write to me in case of things I have done wrong or anything else? I would really appreciate it if you could. MartinDK 22:05, 15 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Hey thanks for your input, EDIT: I was going to ask you something but it's ok your an admin and probably have better things to do. I've decided ill just leave another message on his talk page since he continues to fuel the fire. He clearly does not want anymore comments and seems to want his page protected so I can't leave comments even though I have been mature about this. Anyways if their is anything I can do to help you get elected on the committee lemme know. Once again thanks for your help! :) Valoem talk 07:19, 16 November 2006 (UTC)
    • Oh no, really its ok thanks for the concern :). I think it is an issue between me and him, I originally was going to contact you because he didn't want to be bothered, but then I thought, hey, if he doesnt want to be bothered, he shouldn't bother me by continuing to leave unfriendly comments about me on his talk page. It was just that I found his latest comment "I think his below comments speak for themselves. Apparently he also controls if I am allowed to contact administrators without asking his permission." very insulting and dubious. He is trying to make me sound like I am controlling his actions when I am clearly not. But I made a rebuttle :). Valoem talk 10:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi.

Hi, Merovingian(Ryan). May I ask about this? I am wikipedian since March, but I still didn't get to know about the something that has many different languages in every each articles when I try to improve some articles. I usually enjoy my time to revert vandalisms, and currently so busy in my real life. Could you please explain to me what these things are in each articles? Does bot do this kinds of things? Or What kinds of bot do this kinds of things? I'm very curious about this. From( Isaac Newton)

I hope you could explain to me about this. I found this on Isaac Newton's article. Anyways, Cheers!! Daniel5127 <Talk> 08:09, 2 December 2006 (UTC)

chemicalsources

Hi, you are right, the link is indeed 'internal', but is a link to a list of external sites. Within chemistry/chemical pages there are many cases of linkspamming (not only on sildenafil, which is a common one, but also on many others). This template has been placed there to avoid all these linkspamming, and to provide a commonplace for the external links (which are useful). This should avoid bias, etc. The requests to have a special:chemicalsources has been posted on bugzill/mediawiki, until that page is there, I, and some people on the chemicals-wikiproject, believe that that link is useful there. Hope this explains. -- Dirk Beetstra T C 09:34, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

I could have added those immediately. The enable request on bugzilla is bug 7514, to have a look at a working copy (a test-wikipedia), see here. Cheers! —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Beetstra ( talkcontribs) 10:05, 19 December 2006 (UTC).

Kempeitai

Dear Sir,

I am a Japanese member of the English Bar, and I am writing to let you know that I have made some changes to the Kempeitai page of Wikipedia, which I think you created some years ago. The purpose was to make it clear that the Kempeitai was a Japanese version of the French Gendarmerie, which you can find on Wikipedia, and to explain a bit more about Japan's criminal justice system before the post-war reforms. The old page, to which apparently a number of people had contributed after your creation, said to the effect that because Japan's military criminal proceedings were lax, the Kempeitai appeared brutal. As far as I know, the Kempeitai people did not hesitate to torture people to death - without judicial proceedings of any kind.

I only changed the first section of the page. I did not touch the rest, such as "arrest power" which I know inaccurate. I have little time.

I would appreciate any feedback you can give me in this respect,

Many thanks,

Best,

Hatashin —Preceding unsigned comment added by Hatashin ( talkcontribs)

I will remove whatever you consider is an advertisment. I am trying to educate the consumer on the qualities of down they should look for, explain what a down comforter is. —Preceding unsigned comment added by GooseDown ( talkcontribs)

It is proper to have a capitalized "C" since it is the products completed name. Im sorry I am not an English major, so I really cant defend my position on this. But take it to heart that in basically all literature of marketing for down comforters, I would assume that a title of an article... both words would be capitalized.
I have cleaned up the article quite a bit from my website, www.aabestcomfort.com, found under the "helpful shopping guide" link. To make it entirely less like an advertisment.
- Andrew Louis —Preceding unsigned comment added by GooseDown ( talkcontribs)
Yes I did write the article myself. I also made changes to it here to sound less like an advertisement. Though my approach is conversational, maybe that is why it "sounds" like an advertisement. but the actual text does not point to any one manufacturer, the IDFL is mentioned because they have to be... they are an industry watchdog for many of these matters I discussed.
the low quality down products in particular.
btw, Alaska is beautiful, cant wait to come up there again.

Your long-sustained work on the LoPbN tree suggests you'd support its retention. At this moment, vote is 10 Del to 11 Keep on Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of people by name (2nd nomination).
