The Jack and Marc Show is a Canadian improv comedy podcast created by Jack van Brunshot and Marc Opie. Curently airing on the LibSyn podcast hosting system, The Jack and Marc Show premiered on July 20, 2016 and is currently in Season 5, 2020.

Set up as a conversation between Jack and Marc, the series has evolved from a basic improv skit bit to a discussion about various subjects including history, business.

Production

History and development

In 2015 Jack and Marc had been performing regularly at the Social Capital Theatre. Where a suggesting was made that given the stream of consciousness nature of their act, they should record and air it. They began rehearsing for the World's Biggest Improv Tournament and began recording their sessions.

Each episode involves Jack and Marc acting out a historical event, or, more recently giving an absurd account of some historical event. Episodes often begin with an introduction by Jack of "Masterpiece Theatre" with Marc often commenting that Jack knows a lot about .... Episodes often close with a song related to the episode followed by an end of day closing announcement for a television network.


Recording

Initially episodes were recorded on a single mic and edited but are currently recorded via an online recording service. A typical session involves thirty to forty minutes of random thoughts on the subject, which is edited.

Format

In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police who investigate crime, and the district attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories.

Business Skits

In early episodes of The Jack and Marc Show's Jack and Marc would often portray businessmen or partners in some scheme. They would never accomplish what they set out to accomplish.

In later episodes, Jack and Marc would give an absurd historical account of some event.

Law & Order: Criminal Intent aired for ten seasons and 195 episodes, which aired between September 30, 2001 and June 26, 2011. Seasons one through seven each consisted of 21 to 23 episodes, seasons eight and nine each consisted of 16, and season ten consisted of 8; each episode lasts approximately sixty minutes including commercials (approx. 43 without commercials).
