Matthew Lui (born February 15, 1977 in Edmonton, Alberta) is a Canadian ball hockey goalie who represented Team Hong Kong in the 2009 World Championships of Ball Hockey.

Playing career

Lui began has career with the Calgary Savages in 2003 in the Calgary Ball Hockey League. He remained on that team enjoying local success until 2006.

In 2006, with the merger of the two top teams in the league, the Savages and the Rebels, Lui joined the Calgary Phantoms. With them he won city Gold and then provincial bronze.

In 2007 he was transfered to the Ball Hockey Edmonton League. He spent 2007 as backup goaltender for the Edmonton Playas. The season ended with a quarter final loss in the city championships.

In 2008 he was the starting goaltender for the Edmonton Thugs. The season ended with a quarter final loss in the city championships.

In 2009 Lui was the starting goaltender for the Caroline Animalz. The season ended with a finals loss in the city championships and obtaining silver. At provincials the Animalz lost in the semi finals finishing with Bronze.

Also In 2009 Lui enjoyed international competition playing for Team Hong Kong at the 2009 World Championships of Ball Hockey in Pilsen, Czech Republic. Team Hong Kong finished 12th out of 16 teams. Lui is also expected to play in the 2011 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia.

Currently Lui plays for the Edmonton Rock.

International play

Coaching

In 2008 Lui coached the Calgary Phantoms at the Alberta Provincial Championships winning a Gold Medal.

Personal

The oldest of 2 children, Lui has 1 sister as well as a sister-in-law and brother-in-law. He currently lives in Edmonton with his wife, and works as an Instrumentation Engineer.
