From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Florida Whammy Entertainment is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to recreating classic game shows at anime conventions throughout Florida and the Southeastern United States. They were founded in 2008 under the name The Game Show Gurus by Jonathan Nielsen and Erik Watkins. They are currently lead by Bryan Espinoza and Jonathan Nielsen and employ over 25 volunteers. [1] [2]

History

Florida Whammy Entertainment was founded after Jonathan Nielsen and Bryan Espinoza were served legal notice by the company "Game Show Gurus" based out of Illinois and claimed trademark infringement in early 2011. Due to such, a task force was organized within the organization to re-brand the organization.

After an internal vote, the name "Florida Whammy Entertainment" was founded, and voice actor and artist Sonny Strait was commissioned to create a new logo & mascot for the newly rebranded organization. [3]

Mission Statement

Florida Whammy Entertainment has created and developed a Mission Statement to reflect what the organization as a whole wishes to accomplish. Their mission statement is as follows: [4]

“The mission of Florida Whammy Entertainment is to make a positive difference in the perception of various fandoms, primarily anime, science fiction, fantasy, and gaming, through the use of interactive, engaging entertainment delivered primarily in the form of high-impact game shows by a team of competent, dedicated, knowledgeable and caring volunteers with the end result being fan conventions and events having engaging, interactive programming for attendees to participate in and enjoy which in turn benefits the community at large.
