Bintang Wahyu Saputra (Born 25 May 1992) i is an Indonesian activist who is enthusiastic and dedicated to creating positive change for Indonesia . This young man from the Betawi tribe, who was born from a simple family, is an activist who currently serves as Leader of the Indonesian Youth Council (MPI) of the Central Executive Board of the Indonesian Youth National Committee (DPP KNPI) which is filled by all the General Chairman of Youth Organizations (OKP) who gather at KNPI as ex-officio.
Apart from that, he also served as General Chairman of the Executive Board of the Indonesian Muslim Students Union (PB SEMMI) for two periods, [3] [4] [5] namely 2019–2023 and 2023–2026. He was re-elected as General Chairman of PB SEMMI for the second period at the VIII SEMMI Congress in Surabaya on 23-27 February 2023. [6] [7] [8]
After graduating from high school, he continued his studies at the Tri Dharma Widya College of Economics majoring in Bachelor of Management and earned a Bachelor of Management degree in 2016. He then continued studying Human Resources Management at STIE IBMT Surabaya and graduated with a Masters of Management degree in 2019.
After going through extraordinary forum dynamics, the 8th Congress of the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (SEMMI) in Surabaya was opened by the Minister of Youth and Sports Affairs, Zainuddin Amali, [9] and closed online by the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga S. Uno. [10] Bintang Wahyu Saputra was re-elected as General Chair of PB SEMMI for the 2023 – 2025 period by acclamation.
His seriousness and smart work as SEMMI captain is demonstrated by the encouraging achievements of organizational consolidation. Starting from 2 (two) SEMMI Branches, Bintang succeeded in consolidating the organization until the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (SEMMI) was established in 34 Provinces and 276 Branches (Regency/City level).
Apart from being a student activist, Bintang is also a member of a youth organization. His name is listed in the management structure of the Indonesian National Youth Committee (KNPI), [11] a forum for gathering Indonesian youth organizations. Even the organization's work crosses territorial boundaries. Who would have thought that Bintang Wahyu Saputra would actually be the Secretary General of OIC Youth Indonesia (Youth Organization from OIC Member Countries) of 57 countries. [12] [13]
Bintang Wahyu Saputra also admits that he has had a hobby of demonstrations since his college days. For example, when fuel increases and prices of basic commodities increase. Previously, Bintang admitted that he had warned the government not to increase the price of subsidized fuel. According to him, the increase in fuel and basic commodity prices was caused by the government being unresponsive to community problems. Bintang then highlighted the performance of the Minister of Trade and the Minister of State-Owned Enterprises who were deemed incapable of carrying out the President's duties. [14] [15] [16] [17]
As a student activist, Bintang Wahyu Saputra not only expressed ideas and criticism through street parliament but he also documented notes of his thoughts. One of Bintang's genuine thoughts is the Titik Nol Pancasila Book. [18] This book was born through long studies and through heated debates with opponents in discussions about Pancasila. [19] [20] Bintang admitted that the book Titik Nol.Pancasila was heavily influenced by the thoughts of HOS Tjokroaminoto, founder of Sarekat Islam. The best-selling book was reviewed at various universities in Indonesia, and finally received appreciation in the form of an international award, Bintang Wahyu Saputra and the book was recognized as a Pancasila Activist. [21] [22]
In an interfaith youth meeting when declaring the Pancasila Young Volunteers which was initiated together with the Tjokroaminoto Institute, Bintang emphasized the importance of Pancasila values being upheld and implemented in daily life. This is due to the increasing threat of radicalism in Indonesia which is increasingly worrying. [23] He believes that there has been a rift that was started by provocative actions by certain parties. So radicalism is a form of thinking that must be opposed. He invited all stakeholders, especially the nation's young generation, to work together to practice Pancasila values from residences, places of worship to campuses.
When the Covid-19 virus was first discovered in Wuhan, and the Chinese government immediately closed and locked access in and out of the city of Wuhan, the eyes of the world were all focused on Wuhan. The city is isolated, the population of China and the world are anxious because they are worried that the virus could spread quickly. Including in Indonesia. Indonesian residents who are known to frequently visit China are worried about it.
Bintang Wahyu Saputra's steps to go directly into the community to handle COVID-19 received appreciation from many parties. Bintang is considered a leader who works wholeheartedly for the benefit of society. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, Bintang has taken quick steps to handle it. Programs and initiatives continue to be put into action.
Instead, he was worried and worried that it wasn't clear that Bintang led his friends to carry out a humanitarian action called Pray For Wuhan. This sympathetic action was intended to provide support to the residents of the city of Wuhan and the Chinese government that they are not alone. There was support from young Indonesian people who prayed for goodness for Wuhan City and China. The humanitarian action initiated by Bintang was appreciated by the Chinese government. Bintang and his friends received invitations from the Chinese Embassy in Indonesia. [24]
Then it was continued with the Executive Board of the Indonesian Muslim Student Union (PB SEMMI) opening a Covid-19 humanitarian public kitchen on Jalan Taman Amir Hamzah 2, Menteng District, Central Jakarta, which had previously opened a Covid-19 humanitarian public kitchen. PB SEMMI was established right in front of Pamulang University, South Tangerang City. [25] [26]
It is said that food from this public kitchen is distributed to students from regional areas who study in Jakarta as well as people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic, such as daily workers who earn money in the field, including online motorcycle taxis, bajaj drivers, taxi drivers and traveling traders.
As the General Chair of an Islamic religious-based student organization, Bintang is not an Islamic student activist like most, you could say Bintang is a bit different. Bintang's infatuation with H.O.S Tjoroaminoto's thoughts on Islam and Socialism was adopted by Bintang through the Religious Moderation movement, where Islamic Socialism was translated by Bintang as Islam rahmatan lilalamin. Mercy for all. For this reason, Bintang often campaigns for humanist religious tolerance. That's why Bintang is widely known among non-Muslim religious leaders.
Bintang is a young person who is determined and firm with Islamic values. He will not compromise on matters that fall under Sharia. However, this does not mean that Bintang is a representation of hardline Islam, but on the contrary, Bintang is able to present the face of Islam that is rahmatan lilalamin. The proof is that he was warmly received among non-Muslim religious leaders. A wealth of organizational experience and work experience has been completed neatly, not only that, he still has time to write down his thoughts through books, while still doing it amidst his busy schedule. This is also what makes Bintang to get good awards at the National and International level.
