Who am I?

Well, since I created my account way back in 2011, I figured I should perhaps make a User page in 2017. My "day" job is being a Lighting Designer for live performance: theater, dance, opera, performance art. I'm also a Quaker fellow traveller, thinking of becoming a member of my Meeting.

I've also been nerding it out on the Mac since 2002, starting with 10.2 Jaguar. Had fun with the iBook G3 whose logic board failed right in the middle of drafting a show. Done a little side programming, mostly in AppleScript and Racket. Having a bit of a hard time learning wiki syntax though. Lots of opening an edit view on others' work and then muddling through.

A few professional associations, in interest of transparency: VisionIntoArt, Salem Art Works, National Sawdust, Sister Sylvester, Superhero Clubhouse, Infinity Theatre, Tisch School of the Arts, Department of Design for Stage & Film (my MFA program), University of Chicago (my undergrad).

• Maybe I made too many Wikipedia links? I guess I sorta find them fun. :) I'm also a fan of olde school emoticons. No emoji here!
• Wonder what else should go on this page…

Articles I'm Working On

Trying to highlight diversity within lighting design as the field is sorely lacking in it.

  • Allen Lee Hughes. A conflict of interest (he was my professor in grad school), but its absurd a four time African American Tony nominee doesn't have his own page. I have submitted this article for review through the article creation process. I'd appreciate any feedback.
  • Kathy A. Perkins. An influential African American lighting designer and theater historian. No COI here.
  • A section on the history of Lighting Design. Partially motivated by the prevalence of women among the field's pioneers.
  • League of Professional Theatre Women. When adding a section on diversity to Lighting Designer article, I noticed that LPTW was a red link.
