Edulix.com is an Internet site and forum that provides free 'crowd-sourced' services and products to aspiring undergraduate and graduate students around the globe. [1] The site is primarily designed as a social media resource for scholars with a crowd-generated database of information about university education and careers in the US, Canada, Europe and Australia.
History
Edulix was co-founded in 2000 by Sam Kassegne along with his colleague/college mate Yalcin Sert from the Middle East Technical University. The founders describe their main motivation was their belief that only former international students can really understand the needs and challenges of other aspiring international students. [2]
The name 'Edulix' serves as tribute to the ancient port of Adulis on the Red Sea coast that was used for trade and business in the tenth and eleventh centuries. The site fashions itself along similar lines, to be a portal where students from many corners of the world find help in their pursuit of an education and career. [2]
Forums
The edulix forums primarily hold discussions on topics such as admissions chances, financial aid, standardized testing and school life. Because its user-base is comprised of a majority of international students, primarily from the Indian Subcontinent, there are also frequent discussions and subforums on acquiring visas and other immigration procedures.
Unisearch
The site contains a database of student profiles and admission results, which are used to predict admission trends and chances. The data has been in collection since 2006 and claimed to be the only such repository of data.[ citation needed]
