Title Founder & CEO

Jeff Tangney is an American internet entrepreneur known for his works in the mhealth industry. He is the founder and CEO of Doximity, an online social networking platform for United States-based clinicians that was launched in March 2011. [1] [2] [3]

Early life and career

After graduating from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business, [4] Tangney founded and was the president and COO of Epocrates, a company that makes mobile health software applications that provide information on drugs and diseases as well as diagnostic tools for health care providers. [5] In 2011, the company had an initial public offering (IPO) for $86 million. Two years later, in January 2013, athenahealth bought Epocrates for $293 million. [6]

After leaving Epocrates, Tangney decided to create Doximity in response to what he saw as a communication problem for healthcare providers. [7]He realized that the average primary care physician referred patients to 250 different specialists at 117 different medical facilities a year. Tangney saw that keeping in touch with other specialists was difficult for healthcare providers, which led to the creation of Doximity. [8] [9] Using Doximity, physicians can connect and collaborate with other physicians about patient treatment, identify the right specialists for patient referrals, send and receive HIPAA-secure faxes, and earn medical education credits.
