Bridgette Costello (born June 13, 1990) is an American Contemporary Artist.

After beginning her career in Fine Arts, Costello achieved recognition for her art and now is in the B.F.A. program at Calvin College. During her attendance she has had five group exhibitions showing multiple works of paintings and sculptures.

Early life

Costello was born a twin in Detroit, Michigan, under the name of Bridgette Lillian Keehl, her twin is a Contemporary American Writer know as Colleen Margot William. They are the daughters of Margaret Keehl, a Nurse Practitioner, and Robert Keehl, a stay at home dad. Soon after her birth, her family moved to New Hudson, Michigan where they still live. When Costello was a child she attended Northville Christian Academy till 6th grade then was home schooled till High School. She attended South Lyon High School where due to her dyslexia she turned to taking classes which dealt with visual arts. She found her love for the arts, and began exploring with paint. In 2008 she graduated high school and attended Schoolcraft College for a year. At age 19 she moved again, this time to Grand Rapids, Michigan She attended Calvin College, and now is in the Bachelor of Fine Arts program for gifted students with a strong emphasis on the humanities; she still attends Calvin. She plans on graduating with two degrees one in Fine Arts with an emphasis on painting and the other in Geology.


In elementary school she was diagnose with dyslexia. Through out her life, Costello was mocked and felt out of place. When she learned of Joey Ramone and his OCD she soon turned to the Ramones for they were the outsiders. To this day, she still looks towards music especially Punk Rock for a muse to her art. Her art also reflects many personal interactions with the people who have impacted her life.

During High School she played on the varsity Lacrosse team as the goalie, and ran on junior varsity Cross Country team. She also was the president of the Rocket Club which lasted only the one year she helped run it. During that time the club built a 9 foot tall rocket made of cardboard and epoxy. In her senior year of High school she tried out for the school theatre productions but prefer to work on set and behind the stage.


Career

Costello moved to Grand Rapids when she was 19 years old. To support herself when she started her career, Costello worked as a dispatcher. She began her painting out of Ann Arbor, Michigan and has sold many paintings there.

In 2010, Costello began entering in group exhibitions. One of the exhibitions was in Grand Rapids Avenue for the Arts [1] [2]. This work was her first performance art piece. [3]

She is a member of the Visual Art Guild at Calvin College whose mission is to spread the awareness of fine art within their College who has turned a blind eye to the art program.

Costello also occasionally writes for the Calvin's school paper titled: Chimes [4]. But only when her twin sister, who is the managing editor prompts her to.

Personal life

Costello has three sister; Colleen her older twin sister, Virginia, her older sister, and Isabella her younger sister. She also has a younger brother who lovely gave her the nickname 'Oscar' his name in Sean. .



Costello has never been married, but has enjoyed her fair share love.

Costello has a personal blog [5] which holds many things pleasing to the eye. Her blog url is in reference to Iggy Pop. She did this to honor him and to show her love for his music. She states this on her main page "Lets all get one notion straight. Originality and the undiluted principle of being raw is more stirring than following mass society." which is exactly what her art tries to accomplish.

Art

Costello's art has ranged from Abstract expressionism, Geometric abstraction, Neo-expressionism, and Surrealism.

Her art is unique due to the usage of materials she uses, and how she uses them. Her materials range from raw pigments, paint thinner, raw linseed oil, and latex wall paint. The outcome of each work is extraordinary and cannot be be reproduce.
