Kim Yugyeom( Hangul: 김유겸; born on November 17, 1997), professionally known as Yugyeom, is a South Korean singer, dancer and songwriter. He is the “dancing machine” of the Korean boy band GOT7, also the youngest member maknae ( 막내) of the group.

Career

Pre-debut

The video of Yugyeom dancing during a field trip in middle school was seen by his cousin, a dance teacher. She suggested that he go to dance school. Then Yugyeom started to learn street dance in the second grade in middle school. [2] [3] He was part of a dance group called Body & Soul. Later he joined JYP Entertainment trainee and trained for about three years. [4]

Yugyeom won the second place in the national dance competition the Adrenaline House Dance Battle in 2011. [5] His first public pre-debut appearance was on an episode of Mnet's reality-survival program WIN: Who Is Next (aired on September 6, 2013). [a] [6]

On January 14, 2014, Yugyeom debuted as the lead dancer of GOT7.

2014-Present

On September 21, 2016, Yugyeom competed on the dance battle show aired on Mnet, Hit the Stage, and won the second place on his first try. [7] The battle round was themed “the Fight” where he performed the dance showing the battle of nerves going on in a casino. On September 28, he competed on the show again and won the first place with a dance depicting his growth as a dancer. [8]

Yugyeom graduated from Practical Dance Department of Hanlim Multi Art School in 2016. He is currently enrolled in Daekyeung College, majoring in Fashion Modeling.

Fun fact

  • Yugyeom was conceived in Saudi Arabia, born in Seoul, and raised in Namyangju, Gyeonggido. JB and Yugyeom are the only two members from Seoul area.
  • Even though he is the youngest in GOT7, Yugyeom is the tallest member in the group.
  • Yugyeom and Youngjae (of GOT7) are classmates.
  • The night before Yugyeom took his college entrance test, he was touring in Japan with GOT7.
  • Yugyeom learned House dance at the dance school. He performs House dance almost every time when he is asked to show his talent .
  • Yugyeom is very fond of sweet things and often is teased for his “elementary-school-student taste”. His favorite drink is ice chocolate.
  • Yugyeom choreographed Boomx3 on the flight to Singapore, where they held the fanmeeting and performed the dance with the song. He also choreographed If You Do with Jinyoung.
  • Yugyeom has an older brother.
  • When JB And Jinyoung (of GOT7) came back as JJ Project again in July 2017, Mark (of GOT7), Yugyeom’s mother and Yugyeom went to their showcase to support them.
  • Yugyeom and BamBam (of GOT7) didn’t hit it off right away when they first saw each other, but now they are the best of the best friends.
  • Yugyeom went to Mark’s home in L.A. for the New Year 2014-2015 and met Mark’s family. They started to call themselves “L.A. bros” after that.
  • Yugyeom has a cuddly long-shape pillow that he has been using since middle school.
