Sixth Sense Syndrome

When something isn't obvious to most, yet after explained, it seems so obvious one wonders how one missed it.

Some editors engage in this.

A typical sequence (although I'm not good at it, so this will be a poor example)

  • Editor A. I oppose because of X, Y and Z
  • Editor B. Sorry, but I don't see how X, Y or Z relate to the issue
  • Editor A. I stand by my statement
  • Editor B. I assume you do, I'm trying to understand why
  • Editor A. Because I believe it.
  • Editor B. Understood, but what do X, Y or Z have to do with the issue
  • Editor A. Just connect the dots.
  • Editor B. Indulge me, if you would, what is the connection
  • Editor A. If you had been editing as long as I have, you'd see it.
  • Editor C. I've been editing for years and I don't see it. What is this about
  • Editor A. I've already explained.
