Shekhian Mohalla

Shekhian Mohalla is ancient municipality around which later modern Ropar/Rupnagar (Urdu: روپڑ) city was built. Situated at the bank of River Sutlej in Sirhind region of Punjab. Before partition it was populated by prosperous muslim traders of Kakkay Abbasi ( Urdu: ککے عباسی) clan (aslo famous as Kakkay Sheikhs of Ropar روپڑ) Who are Punjabi Speaking trader and land holding community. Traditionally followers of Sheikh Ahmad Sirhindi Mujaddid Alf Sani (شیخ احمد سر ہندی مجدد الف ثانی). Now Shekhian Mohalla is in the center of Ropar/Rupnagar city and populated by migrated Hindu and Sikh population who came from Pakistan after partition. Kakkay Abbasi (famous as Kakkay Sheikhs ککے شیخ ) who founded Shekhian Mohalla later they migrated to Districts of Sheikhupura and Lahore after partition in 1947. But this Mohalla is still known as Shekhian After their surname Sheikh.
