This page lists all created #REDIRECTs of minor planets for which no article on wikipedia previously existed. They point to their corresponding entry in the
List of minor planets#Main index, and contain the standard templates, categories and slightly modified html comment a {{
NASTRO comment}} (notification about
WP:NASTRO), as described
here. For example, the redirect page
10071 Paraguay has been created with
this standard content (edit view).
The aim is to avoid future inconsistencies by creating redirects with their correct name and aliases (e.g non-diacritical versions, such as for 151242 Hajos) and complete categorization (including discoverers, the mp-categorization and corresponding sort-keys). While I do make mistakes, I have created a number of checks to minimize them.
All newly created redirects are:
Upon naming
(move)
-tag in batch list{{
MoMP}}
and {{
LoMP}}
Some listed redirects are tagged with "LCDB", such as for 30111 Wendyslijk. This means, that LCDB contains physical information, often complementary to JPL's website. For such bodies, LCDB also provides a calculated diameter, an assumed albedo and spectral type, and a family/group/category classification.
For all created redirects, a talk-page with the standard banners is also created (also see
Tom's guidelines about that). For non-diacritical aliases a redirect to the diacritical version is added, e.g. #REDIRECT [[Talk:151242 Hajós]]
.

This is a summary of all named minor planet redirects I created during Winter 2015/2016 (until and including all newly named bodies in the 22 February 2016 M.P.C. release) with the goal that each and every named minor planet will at least link to the list of minor planets on Wikipedia. This initial batch created 3,620 redirects (i.e. about 18% of all minor planets with a name were missing on Wikipedia at that time).
For all redirects created after this initial batch, see § Updates since March 2016.

JPL Small-Body Database Browser not only lacks diacritical marks for named minor planet, but also seems to ignore any published "errata" corrections made in the Minor Planet Circulars (M.P.C.). Example:
The misspelled minor planet names at JPL need to have their own #REDIRECT on wikipedia to prevent any potential confusion (after all, the JPL database is the most cited source for minor planets). Please follow Tom's guideline for double redirects & improperly named asteroids.
This is an example for the minor planet 215044 Joãoalves *D*. In the original Minor Planet Circular (M.P.C. 75105), the citation reads (215044) Joõalves. This was later corrected to (215044) Joãoalves in the errata section of M.P.C. 75107. Due to this simple (and often occuring) mistake, there are now 4 versions needed on wikipedia:
Since the correct version is redirected to the "List of minor planets", the other 3 versions need an {{
R avoided double redirect}} template, as well as a {{
R to list entry}}, a {{
R to anchor}} and a {{
R unprintworthy}} template. Moreover, the talk-pages of the 3 redirected versions need to point to
Talk:215044 Joãoalves. Alternatively, these talk-pages could be synched with their corresponding pages and point to the List of minor planets, which is, however, a page composed of (deprecated) subpages. This seems not very helpful.
But this is not the end, as other versions, such as the non-standard parenthetical version (215044) Joãoalves can also be thought of (in fact, most low-numbered minor planets have such a redirected). Basically, the total number of possible versions doubles with each additional variation, i.e a parenthetical version is possible for all 4 of the above listed versions, resulting in a total of 8 versions. This, of course is absurd, isn't it?! If not, then why are misspelled version not deleted...???. If non-spaced versions were added, the total number would double from 8 to 16...

Some wikipedia articles had been previously deleted (see here). Articles for provisionally designated minor planets (i.e. unnamed ones) are not considered for redirects (in analogy to the list of minor planets where only named entries are linked by default). This task revises a subset of about 1000 redirects to minor planet objects. The subset includes all latinized (secondary) redirects to minor planets that have a name containing diacritical marks.
Recently created Discoverer-categories, mostly by Tom.Reding.
This is a near-complete list (at least 95%) of 342 (for now) missing discoverer categories, based on the current MPs found on WP. This is a reference: not all warrant creation (i.e. if someone discovered only 1 MP, maybe 2), and duplicates may exist if multiple names are used for the same discoverer. ~ Tom.Reding ( talk ⋅ dgaf) 16:30, 9 March 2016 (UTC)
