The Effects of Hurricane Isaias in the Mainland United States were widespread and damaging. Isaias made landfall near Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina as a Category 1 hurricane on August 4th, and moved up the East Coast as a strong tropical storm. High winds and heavy rain spread through the East Coast, which resulted in downed trees, widespread power outages, and flooding.
Shortly before the storm arrived, governor Phil Murphy declared a state of emergency for the entire state of New Jersey. [1] New York Governor Andrew Cuomo declared a state of emergency for 14 counties after Isaias passed over. [2]
Throughout the United States East Coast, 15 deaths were recorded, and Isaias resulted in $4 billion in damages.
