About The Drawing Room

THE DRAWING ROOM is a non-profit making organization, initiated in 2000. It is programmed and managed by its co-founders and Directors, Mary Doyle, Kate Macfarlane and Katharine Stout, who have over twenty years experience of working in the arts. The gallery has no core funding and supports itself through earned income, sponsorship, individual giving and grants from public bodies.

THE DRAWING ROOM attracts a wide audience including art professionals, students and the general public interested in advances in contemporary art and drawing in particular.

Quotes about The Drawing Room

"The Drawing Room is the only UK venue dedicated exclusively to exhibitions about what drawing might mean today. Exhibitions are not based on a medium, but on an idea. The gallery’s focus is unique, as is its identity. As much as anything else, The Drawing Room is a space to think, as well as to look at the very different contributions artists showing here have made to the activity of drawing, which is as much a mental activity as a physical process”. Adrian Searle, Chief art critic, The Guardian

"The Drawing Room is fast becoming a vital resource for current drawing practice internationally. The debate around current drawing practice needs a forum, and The Drawing Room is it." Cornelia Parker (artist)

"The Drawing Room plugs a gap in arts provision in the capital and beyond." Rachel Whiteread (artist)
