Flavio Augusto Fernández Nicolás ( Murcia, Region de Murcia; June 30, 2000), better known as Flavio, is a Spanish singer, composer and pianist. It was made known by participating in the eleventh edition of the Spanish Television talent contest, "Operación Triunfo", finishing second.

His first self-titled studio album, Flavio, was released on July 9, 2021, including his debut single with Warner Music Spain, "Yo con Yo Mismo", as well as nine additional tracks. The album peaked at number two on the official Spanish sales list.

Biography

Flavio Fernández was born on June 30, 2000 in the city of Murcia, Spain. His parents, José Fernández and Dolores Nicolás, encouraged him to follow in the musical footsteps of his grandparents, enrolling him in a children's choir, with his older sister Beatriz. Years later he discovered his musical passion for the piano. After twelve years of musical training, he is studying at the "Conservatorio Superior de Música de Murcia", combining his professional studies with his musical career.

Musical career

Musical beginnings and exposure

Studying piano at the “Conservatorio Superior de Musica de Murcia'' he took interest in self thought to play the guitar and trumpet. By 2019 he started to upload versions of some well known songs to his social media, attracting the attention of the users because of his special voice tone. On June 28 2019, the youtube channel Operacion Triunfo announced its participation in a festival organized by Television Española and Gestmusic, named OTFest, being selected by this perform of <<La Llorona>>. Finally, he started as a singer at that festival on July 18 2019.

2020: Operación Triunfo and debut with Calma

In 2019, Flavio auditioned for the eleventh edition of Operacion Triunfo, being able to pass the casting process, and belong to the selected ones by the jury to get directly to the contest at the gala cero thanks to his perform of <<Your Man>> from Josh Turner. Flavio gained some fame thanks to his performance at this program, being the favorite at the “gala dos” by his perform of <<Copenhague>> from Vetusta Morla. After 10 “galas”, the program took a pause because of the outbreak generated by the covid 19 pandemic at 2020.

At the “gala semifinal” (semifinal stage of that edition), Flavio interpreted the songs, <<Vi>> from Pablo Lopez and <<Hey! Baby>> from Bruce Channel and, with a 36% of the public votes, he went the last finisher of that edition. As a finalist he performed and defended the song <<Death of a Bachelor>> from “Panic at the Disco”, as well as his first solo <<Calma>>. At the end, he got the 2nd position with 32% of the audience votes. By the end of the shot, Flavio started a small tour with his mates from that edition at the “WiZink Center de Madrid”, city where he moved later.

At the “Operacion Triunfo” contest, Flavio launched his debut single <<Calma>>, with the discography “Televisión Española and Gestmusic:” discographer. The song had positive feedback from the public, outlining his incursion at urban styles with a jazz touch. At the album he had the musical production of Nacho Mañó, well known for being part of the band “Presuntos Implicados”. Flavio’s album gathered his songs for the contest and it made its debut at the 6th place on official sales in Spain..

2020 - 2021: Yo con Yo Mismo, recording beginnings and literary debut

After his successful passby the program “Operacion Triunfo”  and the nice commercial feedback of “Calma” on June 2nd 2020, the news informed that Flavio would sign a discographic contract with Warner Music Spain and the representation agency Get In Music.

At September 2nd 2020, he released his first single as a Warner music Spain artist, named <<Yo con Yo Mismo>>. This theme is a ballad with piano, made by the singer while he was at “operacion triunfo”. The single was able to get into diverse top lists and sales at Spain and latin america, reaching top1 at sales on all musical platforms and getting more than three hundred thousand reproductions at YouTube on its first day published. The song made its debut with more than a hundred thousand reproductions at spotify, converting it at the best debut for a “Operacion Triunfo '' participant. That theme also gave the title for his first poetry collection <<Yo con Yo Mismo>>, published on February 12 2021, by the “Bruguera” publisher. The book is considered as a diary, narrating his start at music and his passion for the piano, as well as his experiences at “Operación Triunfo”.

His discographic work continued with the launch of two singles more at 2020: <<Ya>> featuring Daniel Sabater and <<Dejarse Llevar>>. Along with <<Dejarse Llevar>> he launched the promotional single <<Cuando Haya Terminado Todo>>, a dedicated song to the christmas holidays and his love for them as well as the love he took to them at the 2020 covid pandemic. All of the singles were in the company of its respective video clips and they where able to reach the maximum positions on digital platforms in Spain and some Latinamerican countries.

2021: Flavio and other projects

At the beginning of 2021, he released the single “Sobran las palabras”, a theme that managed to position itself in the official lists of digital sales in Spain.  As a last preview of his debut album, he released “Los de arriba”, a song with social criticism of the strong economic inequalities and the consequences they entail. To promote his singles and debut album, Flavio embarked on the Flavio tour. Sobran las palabras, starting on June 19, 2021 in Madrid.

In April 2021, it was confirmed that Flavio was part of the recording of the pilot episode for the Spanish serie Ni p*** idea de música, shot in Valencia and directed by Luis Canet, with the participation of Roi Méndez, Lucía Ramos and Samantha Gilabert, her partner.

On June 5, 2021, Flavio announced, via his social networks, the release of Flavio, his first self-titled studio album. It announces the cover, the release date and the tracklist of the album, which includes the five singles previously released under the label Warner Music Spain. Flavio was released on July 9, 2021, being promoted simultaneously with a sixth and final single, titled “Mi otra mitad”, a track that debuted at number 14 on the Spanish digital sales charts, with only two days of counting on the music platforms.  The album reached the second place on the official Spanish sales list, being the best entry of the week on the list. Likewise, it reached the first place in the sales charts of physical discs.

2022 - present: Quiero que seas feliz and second studio disc

On January 3, 2022, Flavio announced on his social networks the release of what could be the lead single of his second studio album, entitled “Quiero que seas feliz”. Flavio commented that one of the characteristics he was looking for, together with his team, to differentiate the project from the previous album, was to look for more sonority in the songs, with a more organic instrumental.  Simultaneously with the development of his next album, he received several nominations for his previous project Flavio, being awarded at the Premios de la Música en la Región de Murcia , as well as taking a nomination at the Premios Odeón.
