Carl F. Muñana
Mr. Muñana has served as the General Manager of the Inter-American Investment Corporation since January 2013, when he was appointed by its Board of Executive Directors.
Previously, Mr. Muñana’s career combined executive roles in investment banking, commercial banking and social impact investing. He spent 17 years at J.P. Morgan & Co. where, as Managing Director, his responsibilities over time included Head of Investment Banking for Mexico, Global Head of the Commitments Office and Senior Risk Officer for Latin America. He capped his Morgan career by designing an innovative social investment strategy for the firm.
Thereafter, he embarked on a second career focused on challenges and innovations in the fields of social and development finance. This included acting as an investor in, consultant to, and board member of companies, foundations and academia, primarily in Europe, the United States and Latin America.
Mr. Muñana worked for several years in Peru in the fields of microfinance, SME fund creation, housing finance and enterprise development. This was followed by a decade in Spain, where he concentrated on the promotion of social entrepreneurship, corporate governance and strategic advice to development-oriented organizations. He has helped establish, and served on, several international corporate and not-for-profit boards including Voxiva Inc., the MicroVest funds and the Spanish affiliate of Ashoka. Recently, he co-founded the Beeck Center for Social Impact & Innovation at Georgetown University.
Mr. Muñana earned his Bachelor’s degree at the University of Notre Dame and his MBA at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University. He also served in the United States Peace Corps as a volunteer in Sierra Leone, West Africa.
