Biography

He was born on August 13, 1973 in the Gönen district of Balıkesir as the child of Erdal and Nejla couple. After completing his primary and secondary education in Gönen, he graduated from İzmir Atatürk High School. Having studied Language and Economics at the Eurocenter course in Cambridge, England, Akın completed his education in politics at Bahçeşehir University. He attended many trainings and seminars on “Renewable Energy Sources and Production” in Spain on different dates. He worked as the General Manager in private sector organizations operating in the energy field, and as CEO and Board Member in international holdings. Akın, who can speak English, Spanish and Italian, is married and has two children. [1]

Akın, who entered the parliament as the Republican People's Party (abbrv. CHP) Balıkesir deputy in the June 2015 Turkish general elections, where no party could reach the required number of seats to be in power alone, was re-elected as the CHP Balıkesir deputy in the November 2015 Turkish general elections [2] and in the 26th term, he took as a place as a member of the Public Economic Enterprises Commission and the Foreign Affairs Commitee of the Grand National Assembly of the Turkey. [3] In 2016, he became the Chief Advisor to CHP Chairman Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu. [4]

Before the 2018 Turkish general elections, he joined the İyi Party [5] so that he could form a group in the parliament together with 14 CHP deputies. On 10 May 2018, it was announced that 15 deputies returned to CHP. [6] In the 2018 general elections, Balıkesir was nominated as 1st candidate and was re-elected as a deputy. [7]

Prior to the 2019 local elections, he was nominated by the CHP Party Assembly for the Presidency of Balıkesir Metropolitan Municipality. [8] After the alliance decision between CHP and İyi Party, he withdrew from the candidacy in favor of İyi Party candidate İsmail Ok. [9] He was elected as a member of the pacil at the 37th CHP Ordinary Congress, and was appointed as the vice president responsible for energy and infrastructure projects CHP VQA after the congress.
