Alan Burgon (born 1984) is a Scottish actor, writer, director and producer. He received his acting training in Glasgow at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland (RCS) [1], and his first appearance on film was as Orlando in the 2012 feature film, Grimm’s Snow White [2]directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg and produced by The Asylum.

Burgon is best known for his portrayal as David Murphy in the episode Tatort: Blind Date for the long running German/Austrian/Swiss television series Tatort [3]; his leading role as Paul in the independent feature film Heroes and Cowards produced by Avalon International Film & Medien GmbH in Düsseldorf [4] [5]; and as the voice of The Interviewer on the ongoing fictional podcast The Amelia Project, produced by Imploding fictions [6] [7].

Personal Life

He is married to Austrian actress Maria Lohn. They met while studying at the RCS and have one child.

Career

Theatre

In 2008 he began his professional career with the Dundee Repertory Theatre after being awarded a place on its graduate actor scheme, where his first lead role was The Beast in a stage adaptation of Beauty and the Beast, directed by Jemima Levik. [8] He then went on to portray the role of Nick in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf directed by James Brining. His last show as an actor on the graduate actor scheme was a touring production of Peer Gynt, a collaboration between the Dundee Repertory Theatre and the National Theatre of Scotland, adapted for the stage by Colin Teevan and directed by Dominic Hill. In 2010 he moved to Vienna Austria where he became an associate actor of the International Theatre Vienna. In 2011 he toured with the play Butterflies Are Free produced by the Vienna's English Theatre, playing the part of Don.

In 2012 he co-founded Vienna's Open House Theatre [10], where he held the position of Artistic Director for three years, before later assuming the title of Creative Director. It was here that he directed his first show Laurel and Hardy by Tom Magrath [11]; adapted for the stage such works as The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oskar Wilde [12]; wrote a modern version of Henrik Ibsen's Hedda Gabbler titled Hedda [13]; and worked on both new and experimental shows like The Timekeepers by Dan Clancy [14] and White Rabbit Red Rabbit by Nassim Soleimanpour. [15] Best known for its annual production of A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens [16], the theatre also established an annual open air summer Shakespeare production in two locations in Austria: Schloss Pötzleinsdorf [17] in Vienna, and Ausee [18] in Upper Austria.

Podcast

In 2017 Burgon became the voice of The Interviewer on the award winning comedy/fiction podcast The Amelia Project produced by Imploding Fictions [19].

In 2021 he became the voice of Lockie in The Secret Of St. Kilda produced by Haggis and Dragons.
