Paul Asbell Paul Asbell (born July 10, 1949), is an American blues and jazz guitarist from Chicago, Illinois. Beginning his performing career in 1967 in Chicago, Asbell performed and recorded with Muddy Waters, Jeffrey Carp, B.B. King, Lightnin' Hopkins, John Lee Hooker, Earl Hooker.

In 1971, Asbell moved to Burlington, Vermont where he resides today. In 1978, Asbell formed the jazz quartet, Kilimanjaro, recording three original albums for Philo Records over a 30 year span. The band performed at the Kool Jazz Festival at SPAC, the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland in 1981. Through this period, Kilimanjaro served as backup band on lengthy national tours with Esther Satterfield, and Paul Butterfield, backing Butterfield at the Montreal Jazz Festival in 1984. The third album in this series "Homecoming", was released in 2009.

Asbell has taught guitar for over 45 years. While private instruction remains a favored format, he has also taught for several decades on a university level, including positions at Middlebury College, and the University Of Vermont.
