Endymion Porter is a painting made by
William Dobson (1611 – 1646) between c.1642 and 1645.

portraitist and one of the first notable
English portrait painter, praised by his contemporary.

Dobson was born in London, and developed his colour use and elaborate style depicting textures and mterials by copying works of Titian and Anthony van Dyck from the Royal Collection. He became the court painter of King Charles I of England under the title serjeant painter. Dobson was frequently painting the king, his sons ( Charles II) and members of the court, like Duke of York, Prince Rupert of the Rhine and Prince Maurice. [3]
