All I need to know about Wikipedia I learned at these three pages;
WP:FIXTHEPROBLEM -Don't ask someone else to do it. Unless you can't figure it out, and until you've tried, don't just tag it and leave it for someone else to fix.
WP:BOLD -Wikipedia can absorb some pretty big mistakes and no one will be hurt. There is no cost to reverting so it's better to be wrong big than right and silent.
WP:CIVIL -Just because they're wrong doesn't give you the right to be a jackass. How embarrassing would it be if it turns out they actually aren't wrong?
Everything else (technical skills, policy, or otherwise) is just icing.
