Tampon Tax in India

India's controversial 12% tax was removed after avid efforts by advocacy groups and even celebrities. Akshlay Kumar, lead male actor in Pad Man, raised awareness about the Niine Movement to fight the taboo on menstruation. [1]

Tampon Tax Break in New Jersey

An empirical study on New Jersey's 2005 tax break on menstrual products (tampons and other sanitary pads) benefitted both low- and high-income consumers. [2] The study found that prices for consumers decreased by more than the amount of tax, suggesting that removing tampon taxes can make menstrual products more affordable for low-income consumers.
