Edit request

Please change the banner and short all the task forces alphabetically, including some portals that I've added for each task forces of WP:CAL and add a new infobox, unref, comments and mapneeded parameters which I've added some myself from the sandbox. Template-protected edit request on 16 February 2019

Please replace the only instance of "Flag of Los Angeles, California.svg" with "LA Area Task Force Logo.svg". That is the correct logo. Pbroks13 ( talk) 06:04, 16 February 2019 (UTC) reply

Not done: please establish a consensus for this alteration before using the {{ edit template-protected}} template. Please link to a discussion. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 06:39, 16 February 2019 (UTC) reply
@ Jonesey95: The consensus has clearly already been made, as Wikipedia:WikiProject California/Los Angeles area task force uses File:LA Area Task Force Logo.svg as their logo, and not File:Flag of Los Angeles, California.svg. Pbroks13 ( talk) 13:54, 16 February 2019 (UTC) reply
A brief discussion on the task force's talk page will suffice. Template editors are responsible for any edits they make to templates, and since we sometimes don't know anything about the background of the request, explicit consensus helps us feel comfortable making these edits. Thanks. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 14:23, 16 February 2019 (UTC) reply
Pinging BeenAroundAWhile, who made the change from the flag to the logo on the task force page. Perhaps they know of a discussion that led to the change. – Jonesey95 ( talk) 14:25, 16 February 2019 (UTC) reply
I came here to examine and possibly execute this edit request, too, but I don't think this is a good idea, on the merits, regardless whether some wikiproject taskforce people thought it was. What graphics the sub-wikiproject wants to put on its page for decorative purposes is a distinct matter from what is useful to reader-editors in a talk page banner. The latter needs to be a recognizable identifier (something from the real world) that is at least potentially meaningful to people who are not already in the project and taskforce, otherwise it's just meaningless visual noise to them (see MOS:ICONS). A made-up logo can never serve that purpose.

Wikiproject banners on talk pages are not about "branding" (see WP:NOT#WEBHOST) for particular groups of topic-focused editors. They're about article quality assessment, where to seek further input to resolve topically-specific editing concerns, and properly categorizing the page for various tracking and maintenance purposes. (Although writing about a different kind of issue, WhatamIdoing pegged this in a WP:ARCA case back in 2013 [1].) Fake flags don't help the wikiproject banner do its job any better, and instead impede the ability of non-insiders to figure out what the project tag's lines and classifications are and what they're for.

|sfba-importance= is showing as an unknown parameter, putting pages in Category:Pages using WikiProject California with unknown parameters Auric talk 01:07, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Maybe we should ask editor WOSlinker about this and the category Pages using WikiProject California with unknown parameters which has 12,649 entries, because it was [this edit that removed the unknown parameters module. Was that intentional? P.I. Ellsworth ,  ed.  put'er there 02:31, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply
I've reverted back to the previous method for parameter checking as the new method doesn't seem to be working all the time. -- WOSlinker ( talk) 07:51, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply
Thank you! As of this writing the cat is down to 4,636 entries, so the new method doesn't seem to work very well at all. Wonder where else is it being used? P.I. Ellsworth ,  ed.  put'er there 09:40, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply
I've asked MSGJ to take a look at it. It doesn't work if the parameter is missing a | at the end. For example {{{sfba-importance}}}. I've updated that in the template, but left it using the old parameter check method for now. -- WOSlinker ( talk) 20:06, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply
I'm pretty sure it was the missing pipe. -- Redrose64 🌹 ( talk) 21:17, 14 August 2023 (UTC) reply

Orange County articles needing attention

Hi there! Although Orange County doesn't seem to be a task force, Category:Orange County, California articles needing attention exists. Should the task force be added, or should the category (and subcategory) be deleted? Thanks! GoingBatty ( talk) 15:04, 20 November 2023 (UTC) reply
