"Diatonic scales"

I think the misleading title of the "diatonic scales" template should be replaced by "modes of the major scale". The term diatonic is not well-defined in the sense that it is not clear whether it encompasses scales like the harmonic or the melodic minor. -- Dkcycovery ( talk) 05:36, 30 May 2008 (UTC) reply

However, since I consider the melodic minor to be essential for jazz theory, I added them below.-- Dkcycovery ( talk) 05:36, 30 May 2008 (UTC) reply

Some of us have thought that both diatonic and chromatic need special coverage, so we started up a new article: Diatonic and chromatic. Why not have a look, and join the discussion? Be ready to have comfortable assumptions challenged!

"Types" and "names"

What is the difference between the group of scales titled by type and those titled by "name"? For instance, why are the jazz scale and the blues scale in different groups? Hyacinth ( talk) 22:24, 4 July 2008 (UTC) reply

We should include the "Salome Scale." Information can be found on Alex Ross's "The Rest is Noise" Blog. 68.113.7.99 ( talk) 08:51, 4 August 2010 (UTC) reply

The inclusion of {{ Diatonic scale}} and {{ Melodic minor scale}} in this template is bulky and strange. Hyacinth ( talk) 02:35, 27 July 2008 (UTC) reply

I added links to those templates under see also. Hyacinth ( talk) 02:42, 27 July 2008 (UTC) reply

See discussion at Template talk:Scale#Merge 'scale' into 'scales'. Hyacinth ( talk) 20:18, 20 April 2010 (UTC) reply

See the "Modes in Western music" sub-template towards the bottom; you may need to click the show/hide link at the right hand side. Does that help? Feline Hymnic ( talk) 20:13, 12 October 2018 (UTC) reply
Maybe uncollapse, so it is not hidden? - Inowen ( nlfte) 21:33, 12 October 2018 (UTC) reply
