Should this template (below) be somehow incorporated into this big one with all the other Yankees info? Averyisland 14:54, 6 July 2007 (UTC) reply

where's joe torre?

you'd think he should be in there.-- Kangaru99 ( talk) 22:34, 31 March 2008 (UTC) reply

Then add him. :) -- Highway99 ( talk) 00:37, 1 April 2008 (UTC) reply

Shea Stadium

I've removed Shea from the template for the simple reason that it was a temporary and not permanent home ballpark for the Yankees. Obviously, they played two seasons there due to the renovations at the original Yankee Stadium, but to include it here is kind of technical and may mislead the reader. My rationale for excising it here is the same as why Miller Field is not listed in the templates for the Cleveland Indians and Houston Astros and Giants Stadium for the New Orleans Saints. These teams may have played home games at the aforementioned venues, but they were never their actual home stadiums.- PassionoftheDamon ( talk) 19:37, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply

Well you were wrong to remove it. JustSomeRandomGuy32 ( talk) 20:07, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply
Do explain.- PassionoftheDamon ( talk) 20:18, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply
Two years is significant- we're not just talking about a few emergency games. JustSomeRandomGuy32 ( talk) 20:19, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply
But it was still due to a temporary displacement and was never an indefinite or long-term home. If my car is in the shop for repairs and I have to drive a loaner, the loaner doesn't become "my" car; it's simply a temporary substitute.- PassionoftheDamon ( talk) 20:28, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply
Again - it wasn't an emergency. It was planned... and it was for TWO YEARS. Nothing like the examples you provided. JustSomeRandomGuy32 ( talk) 20:32, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply
It doesn't matter if it's an emergency or not; it's still a temporary displacement -- they already had their own stadium, which was under renovation, and played elsewhere just until the work was finished. Regardless of whether it was "TWO YEARS" or two games, residency implies an intent to remain indefinitely, which the Yankees never had vis-a-vis Shea. In any event, I'm not about to make a big issue of this and I do see that the Chicago Bears, who were in a similar situation with Soldier Field, have Memorial Stadium listed in their template. I am, however, going to go ahead and remove the perentheticals (which I added previously) to streamline things a bit.- PassionoftheDamon ( talk) 20:41, 9 May 2009 (UTC) reply
I saw it was put back in as it should be. Shea Stadium was the official home of the team for two years. Arnabdas ( talk) 19:47, 5 April 2011 (UTC) reply

Jackie Robinson

Robinson's #42 belongs in the Yankees template, even though Mariano still wears it. #42 was retired by ALL of MLB, and is thus in all teams' templates. The Yanks should be no exeception. Jackie's #42 is in Monument Park along with all the other retired numbers. Also the Yanks retired #8 twice, so it stands to reason that 42 will also when Rivera retires. Richiekim ( talk) 05:04, 10 May 2009 (UTC) reply

That's all well and good, but I disagree with your removing Jackie Robinson's 42. As I've written above, EVERY MLB team's template on Wikipedia has his retired number, and there's no good reason to exclude it from the Yankee's template. Also keep in mind that Robinson's retired number is mentioned in the main New York Yankees article as well as Monument Park. - Richiekim ( talk) 23:50, 30 June 2009 (UTC) reply

Important Figures

I'm going to do some trimming, as this section is currently overly long. We don't have to list every single guy that ever played for the Yankees. — Dino Velvet 8MM ( talk) 20:05, 29 June 2009 (UTC) reply

Team Captain to Key Personnel Section

I think it is a notable inclusion. When there is no team captain, the section can be deleted. Arnabdas ( talk) 19:48, 5 April 2011 (UTC) reply

I suppose this is worthy. –  Muboshgu ( talk) 23:20, 5 April 2011 (UTC) reply

HELP!!!!!!!

I messed up the color scheme! I wanted to create a new template by using the code of this existing one, and in the process accidentally saved over this one. Now I cannot get this back to normal. Please help!!! Arnabdas ( talk) 17:53, 14 April 2011 (UTC) reply

OK, I fixed just about all of my errors. Sorry for all of that!

"Formerly the New York Highlanders"

Taking this out of the top of the template - according to the team's history page "Highlanders" was not an official nickname. If we're going to add unofficial nicknames we should also include "Americans" at least, and then the thing will get too crowded. SixFourThree ( talk) 17:10, 12 December 2017 (UTC)SixFourThree reply

The Double

Although The Double is part of Seattle Mariners lore, the only reason I added a link to the article from the New York Yankees template is because they were part of the game. It also led to a fallout from the strike from the previous season. SnoopyAndCharlieBrown202070 ( talk) 23:59, 3 November 2023 (UTC) reply
