Assess : newly added and existing articles, maybe nominate some good B-class articles for
GA; independently assess some as A-class, regardless of GA status.
Cleanup : *
Sport governing body (this should-be-major article is in a shameful state) *
Field hockey (History section needs sources and accurate information - very vague at the moment.) * Standardize
Category:American college sports infobox templates to use same font size and spacing. *
Sport in the United Kingdom - the
Popularity section is incorrect and unsourced. Reliable data is required.
* Fix project template and/or "to do list" Current version causes tables of content to be hidden unless/until reader chooses "show."

I don't see a real problem here. Just list the teams that are located between Poughkeepsie and White Plains in here, since they are not listed in the "Sports of the New York City Area". The Hudson Valley Renegades in the NYPL are an example. --

Longer Div I list
the Div I list should be A LOT longer: RIT, Niagara, RPI, Clarkson, St Lawrence, union, St Bonnie, Binghamton, etc...

I believe the list is being kept to schools that are full D-I members, thus excluding schools like RIT and RPI. I believe all of the ones in your list that qualify are now listed.

Scope and name change
Why was this template changed to include the entire state? The NYC metro area already has a template:
Template:NewYorksports. Aside from the confusingly similar names, this template isn't being used -- and probably won't be used -- on any NYC metro teams, and it's missing a bunch anyway (look how many are listed on that other template). I suggest we restore this template to its previous state.

A better idea might be to eliminate the NYC template and add the New York based teams here. I'm not sure why a city needs its own template as the majority seem to be statewide/provincewide templates.

Have you seen the number involved? The NYC template is bigger than this one ever was.
PowersT 13:53, 18 November 2008 (UTC)reply
Well I went ahead and updated this one with all the New York State teams and I am in the process of adding the template to the new pages. So problem solved right?

Well that depends on what one thinks the problem is. Personally, I think the template is way too big right now. It risks overwhelming any page it's put on. That reason alone, in my opinion, was worth dividing the NYC area from the rest of the state. Combining them also risks overwhelming the upstate teams with the plethora of teams from downstate. I again suggest we restore this template to its previous state.

Hello? I still stand by my comments above. This template should be returned to its previous state and usage.

Shortened table by moving flag into Hockey group
01-July-2009: I have shortened the table 26% by moving the NY-flag image into the Hockey group, which allows the rest of the navbox to widen to fit more text across the page. Typically, navboxes often have a right-side image (at center-right), but the navbox coding will shorten all entries to stop at that image-area. By moving the image into the Hockey-group, it still appears at center-right, but text above/below the NY-flag can spread to fill the open space, around that flag image. The change uses
HTML table coding, in the following manner:
<!--Table of 2-columns: teams & flag--><table><tr><td>....list-of-teams....</td><td valign=center>[[Image:Flag of New York.svg|100px|Flag of New York]]</td></tr></table>
Depending on a particular navbox, moving the right-side image into a group can shorten the page between 10%-35%, and the image in other navboxes might need to be aligned up/down by adding "<br>" above the image-spec, to push it lower in the box. -

I have reverted your change, for two reasons: one, the flag was no longer centered vertically, and two, text from other lines was coming very close to the image, making it difficult to read smoothly. If space is an issue, I would fully support removing the image entirely.

Oh, and on my screen, your version was actually about one line taller than the previous version.
