What this navbox should contain and where it should be placed

I saw Category:Islands of Hainan and there is are the Paracel Islands and Spratly Islands‎. Please help me understand why this navbox should not contain those and where this navbox should appropriately be placed. Ping User:Pdfpdf. Thanks. Anna Frodesiak ( talk) 11:48, 31 May 2017 (UTC) reply

User:Anna Frodesiak With pleasure! (Though I don't promise to provide a "perfect" explanation or answer.)
I don't know how much you know about the South China Sea (SCS), so I apologise in advance if I'm telling you stuff that you are already familiar with.
Further, whilst what I'm telling you is what I think is neutral, if you are not already aware, you need to know that most people discussing the SCS have a very strong and very biassed point of view.

So, first, Hainan is a PRC Island off the south coast of the PRC.
The SCS is an area claimed primarily by 4 nations: PRC, ROC, Vietnam and Philippines; to a lesser degree by Malaysia; and a small bit is quietly used by Brunei (but they don't make a noise about it, they just make truckloads of money out of the oil revenue.)
So getting to the point, NONE of what you are classifying as "Islands of Hainan" are actually "Islands of Hainan".
I could go on at length, but I'm not sure what you would find useful. If you do want me to continue, please ask me some more specific / more focused questions, and I'll be happy to try to answer them.

You ask, "where this navbox should appropriately be placed". I'm not sure how well I can answer, and I don't know how I can answer positively. But in the negative, I can assure you that it should NOT be place on ANYTHING in the South China Sea.

I feel my response is inadequate, and for that I apologise, but I hope you find it to be a useful start for further questions you may wish to ask. In good faith, Pdfpdf ( talk) 12:16, 31 May 2017 (UTC) reply

Hi Pdfpdf. Are you alright with the islands directly off the coast of Hainan, like Wuzhizhou Island? Anna Frodesiak ( talk) 12:18, 31 May 2017 (UTC) reply
User:Anna Frodesiak Yes. (You might have noticed that I self reverted one of my edits for one such island.) Pdfpdf ( talk) 12:20, 31 May 2017 (UTC) reply
Sounds fine, Pdfpdf. So, around Hainan itself is fine, but not disputed islands way down south. You might also consider moving Paracel Islands and Spratly Islands‎ at List of islands of Hainan to a see also section. Best, Anna Frodesiak ( talk) 12:23, 31 May 2017 (UTC) reply
Yes, I'd noticed that ... and placed it on my "to do" list ... and haven't yet addressed it ... ;-) Pdfpdf ( talk) 12:52, 31 May 2017 (UTC) reply
I think I've now tied up most of the loose ends. Pdfpdf ( talk) 07:32, 4 June 2017 (UTC) reply
