Template design Information

New look of template

I agree the template should use the seal of California State University. The seal is protected under "fair use" logo. The same way the University of California seal and seals of individual schools can be used. ( Justsomeboi 14:23, 5 July 2007 (UTC)) reply

Also, under California State University, "Trustees of California State University" would be fitting, similar to the "Regents of University of California" ( Justsomeboi 17:45, 5 July 2007 (UTC)) reply

Since templates appear on so many articles shouldn't it be as small as possible?

Things that appear not necessary:

  • large logo looks unofficial and unnecessary
  • latin motto just looks unnecessary
  • long beach / home office links (not sure what they're for)
  • satellite campus since they just go to the city. If we broke all the satellite campus out from the parent campus articles would be nice but until then its not useful.

  • I like the effort that went into this redesign, and I don't want to appear ungrateful, but the logo is very much unnecessary and outlandish. I vote we get rid of them. Streltzer 01:17, 14 March 2007 (UTC) reply
I think the additions and categorizations of the redesign are useful, and I appreciate the consistency with the UC template, but indeed it seems a bit too big. I've modified the satellite campus links to point to their respective campuses (though most are either within parent university pages or nonexistent). But perhaps the template can be shrunk in other ways.. how about replacing the motto cell with a small version of the logo so the large, somewhat gaudy one isn't needed. And I'd agree that the Long Beach HQ links could be removed (I don't think it's unreasonable for folks to click on the main CSU link on the top). -- skew-t 06:20, 25 March 2007 (UTC) reply
  • I agree, and I've removed the image. I appreciate the effort, but if we can't use the real logo, then there's no sense in making one up. FCYTravis 03:37, 28 March 2007 (UTC) reply
  • Why can't we use the real logo... am I missing something here?
The seal had a fair use license which means it shouldn't be used in this case.-- MarsRover 05:21, 4 April 2007 (UTC) reply
from what I can tell, if it's a "fair use" logo, it's OK to use, like with sports teams.
  • Come on, pink??? We can do better. The UC template looks much more impressive.
  • I agree, we don't need such a big title, nor the Chancellor's Office link, nor the satellite campuses, nor the latin logo. Also, as for the color, shouldn't it be red? The CSU logo is red. abexy 02:14, 26 April 2007 (UTC) reply
I think there was an overall design where each college system had a different color, but I agree pink is a little too girly. Need a more neutral color. -- MarsRover 06:48, 26 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Redesigning

Hi, I'm the designer of the aforementioned new UC templates (and a whole lot of other crufty junk: see User:Dynaflow/Crap-I-Made). Need any help with this one? I have a couple of ideas that could be used on this template, but they would involve nuking the current pretty-in-pink template more-or-less completely. --Dynaflow 08:55, 27 April 2007 (UTC) reply

Here's something I dashed off. It's fairly preliminary, and any feedback would be appreciated.

Okay, this design is now portable for all the CSUs that are using those eyesore, ready-to-wear default navboxes. The code is here. Have fun.

It looks much better. I still think we should lose the satellite campuses and the motto, though. Also, shouldn't the "California State University" be on top? abexy 09:24, 28 April 2007 (UTC) reply
There's really no reason to put the "California State University" on top other than adherence to habit. The "beginning" of the navbox is marked by the colored swath that spans the left side of the template, which also functions as a title bar with the short form of the University's name, and the navbox's dimensions are reinforced by the similarly-colored subheading titles along the right-hand edge. My intention was to move redundant or less-sought-after, but still necessary, labels and links towards the bottom and right, while not sacrificing the spacially-defining properties a title bar usually provides. I left the motto in as a place-holder for the host-city links when the template is retrofitted for use by individual campuses.
Overall, I wanted to play off the look of the infobox footer that seems to be on all the CSU pages, and I think this design does it rather well.

Fair use rationale for Image:CSU.PNG

Image:CSU.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot 03:58, 2 June 2007 (UTC) reply

Chancellor's Office Information

  • I think that we need a separate Chancellor's office and Board of Trustee articles, or something dedicated to just the CSU administration, in the same manner as the Regents of the University of California. 18:01, 17 November 2008 (UTC)

Use plain colors

  • Shouldn't use red for background. The title is dark blue text on dark red bkgnd and is barely readable. -- MarsRover ( talk)
    • I looked at this and agree with MarsRover...it is difficult to read. Does anyone have a suggestion for a better color scheme which still uses the CSU's red-and-white basic colors? Streltzer ( talk) 15:43, 21 March 2009 (UTC) reply

U.R. Bronco

  • I noticed that we have a new entry in the Research section for U.R. Bronco. It appears that this is a campus-specific program to support and encourage undergraduate research projects, not something that applies to the entire CSU system. I suggest that it be placed on the Cal Poly navbox and not the CSU navbox. Comments anyone? Streltzer ( talk) 17:51, 1 January 2010 (UTC) reply
    • No responses yet and its been 2 months. So, this needs campus-specific program should be reassigned to the Cal Poly nabvox instead. Streltzer ( talk) 22:10, 5 March 2010 (UTC) reply
