Vin Mariani

Pope Leo XIII purportedly carried a hipflask of Vin Mariani with him, and awarded a Vatican gold medal to Angelo Mariani.

• Occono, I'm afraid this nomination doesn't qualify on a number of grounds. First, the expansion was very far from a 5x expansion—the prose has to be five times as long as it was before the expansion was made to qualify. This article increased from 1779 to 2025 prose characters, which is about 1.15x (it was about 1.4x before you deleted that section). It was also nominated too late: nominations need to be made within seven days of the start of expansion or creation, which in this case began May 20, but this was nominated 20 days after the expansion on June 9, far too late. And finally, the article needs to be bold-linked in the proposed hook, but Vin Mariani isn't anywhere in the hook. I'm afraid this has no chance of qualifying for DYK at this point; I hope you have better luck next time. BlueMoonset ( talk) 21:35, 10 June 2018 (UTC)

I picked Expanded not knowing about any 5x requirement, to be honest. Does an article have to be recently created or expanded to be nominated for DYK? I'd be happy to change it to:

So is it just a case of me mislabelling the application, or is it not possible to suggest any random article for DYK? Does any submission need to be recently created or 5x expanded? occono ( talk) 09:45, 11 June 2018 (UTC)

It has to fit one of the three criteria found at the DYK rules: "DYK is only for articles that have achieved one of the following within the past seven days: 1) Created 2) Expanded at least fivefold 3) Promoted to good article status". There is no avenue to just suggest random stuff for DYK, it has to fit one of those three categories. ♠ PMC♠ (talk) 09:59, 11 June 2018 (UTC)
